ESSEX - George E. Gersch, 77, of Essex, formerly of Chebanse, died Wednesday
(June 6, 2001) at Riverside Medical Center following a short illness.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Knapp Funeral Home in Clifton, where
services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday. Rev. John Kiefer will officiate.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Chebanse.
Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church in Bonfield, where he was a member,
or to Prairieview Lutheran Home.
Mr. Gersch was a farmer for 35 years. He was also a security guard at Riverside
Medical Center for 19 years.
Mr. Gersch was born Feb. 12, 1924, in Clifton, the son of George F. and Gertrude
M. Christensen Gersch. His parents are deceased.
Surviving are his wife, the former Norma J. Theesfeld, whom he married Aug. 14,
1948, in Danforth, of Essex; one son, Kenneth Gersch of Bourbonnais; two daughters
and sons-in-law, Diane and Chuck Baker of Chebanse, and Carolyn and Glenn Kirchner
of Essex; one sister, Elaine Hemende of Kankakee; nine grandchildren; and 11
great-grandchildren.
One great-grandchild, Anthony Lynch, is deceased.
He enjoyed fishing, outdoors and gardening.
