Three area residents died in separate automobile accidents over the Easter
weekend. . . . Robin Genzel, of Buckley, (was) killed in (an accident) Sunday
morning . . . .
Genzel, 42, was eastbound on a county road four miles east of Cissna Park when
his car was broadsided by John Vasilakis, 60, of Bridgeview, Ill. Genzel's wife
Amy and two of their three children were treated and released from Carle Hospital
in Urbana. A third child was treated and released from Iroquois Memorial Hospital
in Watseka.
Funeral services for Genzel are pending at the Ford-Baier Funeral Home in Buckley.

According to Iroquois County sheriff's police, Vasilakis was southbound on
County Road 1600 East and failed to stop at the intersection at County Road 500.
He struck the Genzel automobile, sending both vehicles into a ditch. Assisting
at the scene were the Cissna Park Fire Department and Emergency Medical Service
ambulances from Cissna Park, Milford and Iroquois Memorial. Tickets are pending
as the accident remains under investigation.

BUCKLEY -- Robin L. Genzel, 42, of Buckley, died Sunday (April 20, 2003) at Iroquois
Memorial Hospital, Watseka, following a two-car accident in Fountain Creek Township,
Iroquois County. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Ford-Baier
Funeral Home, Buckley, and from 1 p.m. Thursday until the 2 p.m. services at
St. John's Lutheran Church in Buckley. Rev. Mark J. Haller will officiate.
Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Buckley.
Memorials may be made to the education fund for the Genzel children and can
be left either at the funeral home or at the Buckley State Bank.
Mr. Genzel was a general contractor.
He was born April 16, 1961, in Watseka, the son of Glenn W. and Alice A. Krumwiede
Genzel.
Surviving are his wife, the former Amy J. Benjamin, whom he married Sept. 10,
1988, at St. Joseph's Church in Colfax, of Buckley; three children, Kristy, Kaylee
and Connor, all at home; his parents of Buckley; maternal grandmother, Irma Krumwiede
of Buckley; one brother, Troy Genzel of Paxton; one sister, Tony Skaggs of West
Lafayette, Ind.; half-sister, Teri Derrick of New Mexico; and several other relatives.
He was a 1979 graduate of Buckley-Loda High School.
Mr. Genzel served in the U.S. Army from 1980-1983 and was a member of the Buckley
American Legion, Byron Hickerson Post 432.
He enjoyed NASCAR racing.
He was buried on 24 Apr 2003 in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery, Buckley, Illinois.53 Robin Lee
