Kenneth T. Hartke, 90, of Bourbonnais, died Saturday (Sept. 3, 2005) at Riverside Medical Center.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes, and from 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church until the 10 a.m. funeral service. Rev. Karl Koeppen will officiate.
Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where he was a member.
Mr. Hartke was born Sept. 29, 1914 in Del Ray, the son of Theodore G. and Pauline Kaufmann Hartke.
His wife, the former Wilma Kirchmann, whom he married Oct. 5, 1939 at the parsonage of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Kankakee, died Sept. 2, 2002. He worked at JC Penney's downtown store for 1 1/2 years, Beta Shoe Co. in Kankakee from 1935-1950 as a supervisor, started the Fairview Courts Motel with his wife and owned it for 12 years, then sold the motel in 1963 and went to work at Speckman Realty for the next 12 years. He was a die-hard Cubs fan, enjoyed fishing, hunting and bowling. He was named 2003 Man of the Year at Gala Lanes Senior League.
Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth L. and Sherry Hartke of El Paso; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jan L. and Hal Bryant of Bourbonnais, Nancy and Rufus Blackley of Hudson, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one special niece, Dolores Bergman of Kankakee.
One son, David Hartke, is deceased.

Wilma B. Hartke, 85, of Bourbonnais, formerly of Kankakee, died Monday (Sept. 2, 2002) at Riverside Medical Center, Kankakee.
Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Kankakee Chapel of the Schreffler Funeral Homes, and from 9:30 a.m. Thursday until the 10:30 a.m. services at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Kankakee, where she was an active member. Revs. Karl Koeppen and Curtis Boyer will officiate.
Burial will be in Mound Grove Gardens Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Hartke, with her husband, Kenneth Hartke, built the Fairview Courts Motel in Kankakee.
She was born Feb. 8, 1917, in Kankakee, the daughter of Ambrose and Louise Fritz Kirchman.
Surviving are her husband, Kenneth T. Hartke, whom she married Oct. 5, 1939, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Kankakee, of Bourbonnais; one son and daughter-in-law, Ken L. and Sherry Hartke of El Paso, Ill.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jan and Hal Bryant of Bourbonnais, Nancy and Rufus Blackley of Hudson, Ohio; 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and a special niece, Dolores Bergmann of Kankakee.
One infant son, David; one sister, Mildred Robinson; and four brothers, George, Walter, Harry and William Kirchmann, are deceased.
Mrs. Hartke was past president of the Ladies Aid at her church and past president of St. Paul's Lutheran School PTA.
She enjoyed embroidery.
