The Brick Works
The drawing on the right is of the
Brickworks in Marion Township,
Henry County, Iowa. Once owned
and run by my ggrandfather,
Daniel Boone Stevens. He hired
his nephew James H. Day, son of
his sister-in-law, Rachel Cox Day
and her husband Ransom Day,
when James was only 15 years
old. Much later, James bought
the brickworks.

This sketch was taken from a
book titled "Portrait and
Biographical Album of Henry
County, Iowa", Acme publishing
company, 1888.

The picture was provided to me,
with much gratitude by Pat Ryan
White.

The Picture on the left is a
photograph of the Iowa
Institute for the Insane. The
bricks for this building were
made by my ggrandfather's
business (family owned and
operated). (See top photo. )
Daniel Boone Stevens.

Some of his workers were his
two brothers, Thomas E.
Stevens, Elias Stevens, brother-
in-law Julius Cox, nephew
James H. Day.

This building burned down
quite some time ago and was
replaced with a more modern
looking red brick building.
This picture was in a display
case of the newer facilities in
Mount Pleasant, Iowa. I took a
picture of the picture in 2000,
the glare is from the show case
glass.
