Penn this 25 day of Jany 1794 Witnefs Dorcas X (her mark) Pigmann William Barnards The above William STARR is the closest found so far who meets the "in the right place at the right time" requirement as father of my John HENRY STARR who first appears in Wilkes Co. GA 29 JAN 1785--tombstone of his son Benjamin says he born on that date in that place! My best "guesstiment" is he arrived in GA 1783 or 1784 for Bible notation says first 3 sons--last born 1782--were born in MD. Some researchers believe the HENRY STAR found in the Upper Bat talion of Montgomery Co., per Muster Rolls and Other Lists: Maryland Militia in the Revolutionary War by S. Eugene Clements and F. Edward Wright is "my" John Henry Starr; his name is also found same place and time (1778) per Revolutionary Records of MD by Brumbaugh and Hodges. I'm not sure what to believe, but this is as good a place to begin looking for his father as any since the Bible record says John Henry was born in MD c1752. Per Colonial Soldiers in the South 1732-1774 by Murtie June Clark: WILLIAM STAR appears in Capt. Thomas Sappington's Co. from Prince George Co. NOV 1748. (Montgomery was formed from Frederick Co. and Frederick from Pr. Geo 1748. In GA late 1790's early 1800's the Sappingtons were closely allied with the Pinkston family--two of John Henry's sons married PINKSTONs) WILLIAM STARR obtained patents for two tracts of land now located in Montgomery Co.--50 acres called "Starr's Fancy" in 1749 and 10 acres called "Blazing Starr" in 1756. He and wife "Susan" sold Starr's Fancy in 1755; the above transcription covers "Blazing Starr". In the Frederick Co. Debt Book for 1761 to 1773 William Starr's name is followed by the word "Carolina" indicating he had moved by 1761; however the above 1779 deed says he "of Montgomery Co. MD". The only other reference I've found to this William appears in Gleanings From MD Newspapers 1727-1775 by Robert Barnes: The Annapolis Maryland Gazette ran the following interesting tidbit 19 JAN 1756: William Starr will not pay debts of wife Susanna who has eloped from him for the 4th time.
