This 11th day of Feby 1818 I Samuel Crawford Senior of the County of Ohio and State of Kentucky being in a state of health and of sound and disposing mind and memory and considering man's frailty and knowing the un- certainty of life and the surety of death do make and ordain this to be my last will and Testament First Recommending my soul to God the author of its being and my body I recommend to the Earth from whence it was taken hoping that at the General Ressurection my soul and body may reunite to the Glory of God through the mediation of Jesus Christ and as touching such worldly Estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life I give and dispose of the same in the manner and form following First it is my will and desire that all my Just debts and funeral Expenses be paid out of my personal Estate by my Exors Thereafter to be named. Att CS Henderson Clk ------------------------------- Transcription of the Botetourt County, VA Marriage Bond between Samuel Crawford and Jane Mason: Botetourt County Virginia Marriage Book Know all men by these presents that we Samuel Crawford and John Mills Jun. are here and firmly bound unto our Sovereigntor the King his heirs and succssors in the sum of five hundred pounds Current money of Virginia so the which payment will and truly to be made we bind ours our and each of our Joint and Several Heirs exors & Admrs firmly by these presents. In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals this 23rd Day of March 1771. The Condition of the above obligation is such that whereas there is a marriage intended to be solemnized betwen Samuel Craw- ford and Jane Mason of Lawful age both of this Parish and County is Therefore there be no lawful cause to obstruct the said mar- riage then this obligation to be void otherwise to remain in full force and virtue. I leave to my Nephew Mason Crawford all my Interest in & to the land formerly Tasker Toshes on Roan Oak River & also to small tracts thereto adjoining the one of 22 & the other 24 acres also _____ negro woman Hannah & her son Tem & my watch. Item. It is also my will that all my lands between Robert Harvey's Furnace _____ & the mountain (viz) 240 acres called flag meadow Tract & part of 3600 acres lying between the same & the lands Robert Harvey bought of Joseph Mason & also a part of a tract of 815 acres adjoining the _______ which Remains unsold at this time supposed to be about ____ Hundred & fifty acres be sold & the money arising from such to be equelly divided between Jane Pate, Eleanor Jennings, Mararet Crawford, & Sarah Crawford Daughters of Samuel Crawford & Jenet Crawford his wife (& my Sister) of the state of Kentucky. Item. I leave to Mary Pate, wife of Edward Pate, who is also Daughter of the said Samuel & Jenet Crawford five pounds to be paid out of my personal Estate. Item. To my said Sister & best friend Jenet Crawford I leave my mulatto girl named Nelly during her life & at her death to leave the said Nelly to any of her children she may think proper or free her by Emancipation as she pleaseth. Item. It is farther my will That two tracts of Land one of 135 acres & the other of 102 acres Joining Each other on pine creek in Montgomery County also 236 acres on Little river in sd County also 3800 acres in Botetourt at _______ the mouth of Back Creek also 200 acres part of 400 acres which I bought of John W. May between me & Elijah McClanahan in Kentucky State also 1000 acres in & state which I bought of Stephen May also 163 acres in Botetourt which is in dispute with Nathan Scott if recovered & ______ other Lands which I may at this time be entitled to be sold & the proceeds of such sales to be equally divided between the children of my Dec'd Brother William Mason late of the state of Kentucky, The children of my Dec'd Sister Mary Edgar late the wife of James Edgar of Bedford County & the Children of my Sister Margaret Snodgrass, wife of Joseph Snodgrass of Tennessee State to each of them respectively male or female In equal proportions. Item. I leave to my Brother Joseph Mason of Kentucky State all my Lands lying on back creek, its waters between Robert Harvey's forge & the lands of James Melton ammounting to about eight or nine Hundred acres or upwards, also the remaining part of my claim to 3600 acres granted to Robert Harvey & myself & not yet divided which will be chiefly in Franklin County which will amount to about fourteen Hundred acres to be disposed of at his pleasure & for his benefit. And in case any of the lands aforementioned should be sold by me previous to my Decease the person or persons to whom it may be devised will be entitled to the amount given for such lands out of my Estate. It is also my will & desire that in case any of my Legatees should die before they may arrive to lawful age or without law full Issue such part of my Estate as is to them devised is to be divided between the Brothers & Sisters of such decedent in Equal proportions.
