OLD YOUNG CEMETERY David and Wanda Saile went to the OLD YOUNG CEMETERY with some other cousins on Nov. 10, 2001. Our mission was to visit the tombstones of our ancestors. Here is our description of the area and the cemetery. From Potter, Kansas go East 2 miles and then turn North l mile then 1/2 mile West, this road is all dirt. On the Right side of the rode is the property; there is a gate into the property. The Cemetery is about « mile back from the road, you either walk back or use pickups; also the ground has to be dry and no crops. Go North, across the field, until you reach the wooded area follow it until you are on the East side of the woods and there is a fence. From there you walk going West, using the deer trails, about 350 ft. You can't see the cemetery because of all the trees and overgrown weeds. The best time to go is in the fall or winter. The gate to the YOUNG CEMETERY is about 1 1/2 ft. off of the ground as a tree has grown through and lifted it up. The gate is about in the middle of the south fence line. There are no fence posts and the fence material is about 1 foot off of the ground. The fence material was old hog wire and still can be found around the cemetery, so you can find the boundaries. The YOUNG CEMETERY is 40 ft. by 40 ft. and in the North West side is the Potter lots. The Potter lot is 24 ft. by 20 ft. with a 6 ft. high steel rod fence with no gate into the lots. If you want in, you climb over the fence. A farmer that owns the land now puts in a crop. Then in the winter months he runs some cattle in this area. We were able to find all of the tombstones that have been listed in all of the books and from what different people that have went there before us. Some of the tombstones that are not in the rod iron fence are broken and are probably not in the place that they should be, this is from the cattle and time. Some of the tombstones were buried under dirt and leaves and such. In side of the area, that has a rod fence around it, all of these stones are in good shape, except for Lucinda Womach and it is broken in half, a tree had fallen on it and broke it. There are some indentions in the ground where some of the graves are located. This is what we saw and we hope that this lets you know what the Cemetery looks like. We have made a drawing of what the Cemetery looks like. David and Wanda Saile November 2001
