They had eight children, only two lived past childhood. She is shown in the painting at right at age 28 with her children, Benjamin F. Lynde, Jr., born 14 January 1837, Antwerp, 3 years old, died 23 April 1855 at 18 years, no offspring and Evaline Amelia Lynde, born 19 February 1835, Antwerp, five years old here, later wife of Mr. Porter.

        (1)  George Cheney, born 12 August 1829 in Antwerp, Jefferson Co., New York. He was enumerated as a farmer from the U.S. in the 1871 Census of Ontario, of Mallorytown, Town of Yonge, Leeds Co., Ontario, dying there about 1891, age was 62.  He married Rosetta Farley, born between 1831 and 1836 in either Ireland or Canada.
        In the 1850 census of the Town of Antwerp, Jefferson Co., New York, George was enumerated in the household of B. R. Bemus, as a farmer of 21 years, born in New York. Next door, enumerated in a dwelling of her own was "M. Cheney," a female age 19, born in Canada. Just a few houses away lived his sister Mrs. Catherine Maria (Cheney) Lynde and their younger sister Harriet Cheney, age 17. Although this census record says only "M" hers and George's ages match the George and Rosetta of Ontario, and the birthplaces match too, plus George of Ontario was a farmer, as is this one in the 1850 census for Antwerp (unfortunately, 1851 census records for Yonge no longer exist so he cannot be tracked for that year). Judging from the names of their children and grandchildren, "M" probably stood for Margaret or Mary, which makes sense since she was Roman Catholic; thus Rosetta Farley's full name was probably Margaret Rosetta or Mary Rosetta. She and her family may have used either one interchangeably at different times in her life.
        Two years earlier, in the 1848 census of Town of Yonge, Leeds Co., Ontario (the Mallorytown area), Alonzo Cheney—of as yet unknown relation to George— and his wife Ann Farley (sister of Rosetta) were enumerated in a house on the same lot where George and Rose were living by the time maps were map in 1864. Ann and Rose's parents John and Mary Farley lived only five lots away, a distance of about one and a quarter miles.
        From the preceeding evidence the following series of life events can be conjectured for George and Rose: W hen Alonzo Cheney married Ann Farley, her parents, John & Mary Farley, may have given them land nearby, or else the newly-weds chose to purchase the land so she could be near her parents. Alonzo and Ann (Farley) Cheney introduced her sister Rosetta M. Farley to George Cheney, who was still living in Antwerp—this would explain why Rosetta M. ends up moving from Mallorytown to Antwerp. After George and Rosetta M. (Farley) Cheney were married, he hired himself out to local farmers he new in Antwerp in order to make money to buy property and start a family. Alonzo and Ann (Farley) Cheney then probably sold part of their lot near Mallorytown to George and Rose—and that explains how George ended up in Canada.

Margaret "Maggie," born 24 May 1849 in Mallorytown, died in Mallorytown 30 December 1937, as the oldest resident of the village, age 88, buried in Mallorytown Cemetery, Mallorytown, Leeds County, Ontario, Canada with her son George; married Duncan Fraser, who died in Oswego Co., New York about 1876 or 1877.

James, born about 1854, died 1931 in Nipissing, Ontario, Canada; married first in 1875 in Sandusky, Michigan, Janet McPherson; married second about 1923 in Nipissing, Ontario, Canada, Mrs. Martha Austin.  His obituary, clipped by great-niece Jennie Fraser, from an unknown Canadian newspaper reads as follows:  "At Rest: James Cheaney -- A familiar figure, a resident of this community for half a century, has gone from us.  Mr. Cheaney died on Wednesday night after an illness of about seven weeks' duration.  The funeral was held on Friday afternoon from his late residence in Nipissing, and notwithstanding the disagreeable weather there was a large gathering of friends to pay their last respects.   The funeral was held under Masonic auspices and about forty members of the craft were present to honor their brother with the last sad rites.  A very impressive service was held in the United Church, conducted by the pastor, Mr. Cox, who was assisted by Rev. Mr. Murray of Powassan.  Burial took place in the Nipissing cemetery.  Mr. Cheaney was born in Mallorytown, Co. Leeds, 81 years ago.  He was married to Janet McPherson at Sandusky , Mich., in 1875.  He was one of our earliest pioneers, coming to this district in  1881, and settling on the homestead at Hotham now occupied by a nephew, Alonzo Cheaney.  Years later he accepted an agency for selling implements and machinery and for some years was head agent in Northern Ontario for the Moodie Company, his territory extending as far west as Fort William.  In 1911 the family suffered a great loss in the death of the wife and mother.  Mr. Cheaney married Mrs. Martha Austin eight years ago.  Besides the sorrowing widow there are surviving two sons and two daughters by his first marriage, namely: James H., at Hotham; Mrs. Jas. Davis, Powassan; Melzar, at Nipissing, and Mrs. Melville Elliott, Hotham.  There are also three sisters and one brother -- Mrs. W. Weeks, Brantford; Mrs. Maggie Fraser, Mallorytown; Mrs. Hale, in U.S.; Henry Cheaney, Mallorytown.  There are 22 grandchildren.  Mr. Cheaney's jovial disposition hearty greeting, and generous heart were characteristics which made him popular with a large circle of friends.  Card of Thanks:  The family of thelate James Cheaney express their grateful appreciation of the goodness of neighbors and other friends during Mr. Cheaney's sickness and for the many expressions of sympathy."

5. Harriet "Hattie," born 16 March 1859, died 7 May 1941 in Stockholm, St. Lawrence Co., New York, in Potsdam, St. Lawrence Co., New York; married about 1876 in North Stockholm, St. Lawrence Co., New York, Sumner Hale, died June 1928.  Her obituary states that she was daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Cheney, however she is known to have been George's daughter from other family obituaries, records, and narratives.  She and Sumner Hale had been residents of Norwood since 1904.  She died at Potsdam Hospital at 10am due to heart trouble, after a year of illness, and a week's stay in the hospital.  The funeral was conducted from the funeral home of Harold Burke, Rev. Robert Burns, pastor ofthe Norwood Methodist Church, officiating.  Interment was made in the Hale Cemetery, Town of Norwood.  At the time of her death she had 19 grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

6. George Albert, born May 23 1864, died 7 January 1922; married 20 January 1886 at LaFargeville, Jefferson Co., New York, Mary Etta Warner, born 2 February 1868, died 6 September 1944.  They removed to Hotham, Ontario, Canada in May 1886.  His descendants spelled the name "Cheaney."  Parents of:
1. Alonzo, born 26 June 1888, died 8 March 1955, eldest of his parents' sons.  He was mentioned in James Cheney's obituary as residing on the homestead at Hotham, Ontario, Canada, during the 1930's.
7. Henry William, a farmer, born about 1863/1864 at Mallorytown, died in Mallorytown, Leeds Co., Ontario, died Thursday, 19 September 1946, in his 84th year of age, at the Brockville General Hospital, Brockville, Ontario, Canada, where he was admitted four or five days prior.  According to his obituary, published the same day in the Brockville Recorder and Times, "he had resided in Mallorytown district all his life and had been in failing health for some time."  He resided on the Old River Road in Mallorytown, near Mallorytown Landing (R.R. #3, ) and worked odd jobs throughout the Thousand Islands, retiring about 20 years prior to his passing.  Services were provided the Johnston Funeral home, 68 King Street east on Saturday, September 21st, at 2 o'clock, and interment is said to have followed in the family plot at Mallorytown.  Father of:
1. Clifford, a member of the Royal Canadian Air Force; married Ruth.  He was residing in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, when his father died in 1946.
2. Freddie, was living in Brantford, Ontario, Canada, when his father died in 1946.
3. Elsie; married A. Gibson, and was residing in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, when her father died in 1946.
