(1) Abraham Bell,
born in England about 1588, died July 1644 in Charlestown, Suffolk Co.,
Massachusetts, at 56 years of age. He married Katherine Waffe Bullfinch,
born about 1623/1624, died 1692 at 68 years of age. Parents of:
(2) Francis Bell,
born about 1614 in England, died and buried 8 January 1689/1690 in Stamford,
Fairfield Co., Connecticut; married in Stamford,
Rebecca,
born about 1618 in England, died and buried in Stamford 17 May 1684 at
65 years of age. Francis was one of the early settlers of New Haven
Colony, Connecticut. In 1852, one author reported
that
"some of the descendants of Francis have a Bible which was brought to New
England, in the Mayflower, in which is record of the first male child born
in Stamford." Francis is favorbaly spoken of by Cotton Mather along
with George Slauson. On 7 January 1667, Francis Bell, Richard Law,
Jonathan Selleck, George Slauson, and John Holly, all of Stamford, made
a second purchase of land to add to the settlement boundaries from Taphanese
and Powahay, and other Indians. When it became necessary to replace
Rev. Denton, Francis Bell and George Slauson were appointed to got to Boston
in search of Rev. John Bishop to ask him to preach at Stamford. They
traveled on foot. Francis, along with john Holly and George Slauson,
were the first townsmen in Stamford. Francis was one of the committee
to form a union between the two colonies in 1664.
