Edwin and Jane on their wedding day

My great grandparents, Edwin Snively and Jane Rennell Griffitts. Photo taken on their wedding day in 1893, Alameda, California.

Born in 1873, Edwin Snively Griffitts carved replicas of the twenty-one California Missions. His woodcarvings were exhibited at the 1939-1940 San Francisco International Expo at Treasure Island.

Edwin was a butcher by trade. He was a free spirit. This led him to traveling the West where he worked as a prospector in the gold mines and fished for salmon in Alaska.

Edwin lived an extremely simple lifestyle which continued into his later years and was necessitated in part by his divorce from his wife, Jane. Edwin passed away in 1942.
