The Robertson Family of Scotland and Jefferson County, Ohio

I have had quite a bit of trouble tracking this line down long distance, at one time I hired a researcher to do some checking in Steubenville, and she found *two* Andrew Robertson's in the same area around the same age at the same time.

I could not at the time afford any followup research, so I present here all that I know!

Andrew Robertson (1826 - ) was born 1826 in Scotland, and died Aft. 1883. He married Mary Bottomley who was born 1828 in Scotland, and died May 10, 1883 in Steubenville, Jefferson County, Ohio.

In 1870, in the Federal Census, he was a Coal Miner residing in Island Creek Twp., Jefferson County, Ohio.

In Mary's Obituary from the Steubenville Weekly Gazette, 11-May-1883 it says:
Mary, wife of Andrew Robertson, died last night at 8:20, at her home, on the corner of Dock and Third streets, after an illness of fifteen months, aged 55 years. She was a native of Scotland, and came to Steubenville in 1858. She was the mother of eleven children, nine of whom are living. The funeral will take place Friday at 2 p.m.

Children of Andrew and Mary (Bottomley) Robertson are:
William, Jennie, Mary A., Isabella, Agnes, Daniel, Kathryn , Robert and John.

Kathryn Robertson (1864-1942 daughter of Andrew and Mary (Bottomley) Robertson, married 1st May 24, 1879 in Steubenville, Jefferson County, Ohio, William E. Smurthwaite (1859-1883) and 2nd Samuel Stafford. Please see the Smurthwaite Family Page for William E. and Kathryn (Robertson) Smurthwaite's children and descendants. Kathryn and Samuel had two children, Bert T., and Flornece.
