The Adam Knauf and Elisabeth Ifft Family
Johan Nicholas Knauff and Anna Weining (Vining) emigrated to America in 1831 with their family, and settled first in the woods of Butler County.
They had five children: Nicholas, Michael, John, Michael (2), Adam and Margaret, who married Michael Senkan. Johan Nicholas died in 1855 and Anna in 1834, in Pennsylvania.
Michael Knauff, Johan Nicholas' father and Adam's grandfather, started the voyage with the family on the same vessel, but died on the way and was buried in the ocean.
Adam Knauff, was married to Elisabeth Ifft, daughter of Johann Peter Ifft and Anna Günther, natives of the same country, and who came on the same vessel to America with the Knauff family.

ELISABETH , was b. April 18, 1827, Elm, Hesse, Germany. Her parents were ANNA G ÜNTHER and CHRISTOPH R AU . When Johann Peter and Anna (Günther) Ifft were married in 1831 all children of their previous unions become their wards. Elisabeth Ifft, emigrated with the family to America in 1831, and is named in Johann Peter Ifft's will as his step-daughter.
