FIRST GENERATION

FIRST GENERATION

1. James GEDDY was born before 1710 in Scotland. His second son, James, Jr. was born in 1731, so it's quite likely he was out of his teens at that time. He was a Gunsmith and Brass Founder in 1738 in Williamsburg, York, Virginia. He signed a will on 23 Sep 1743 in Williamsburg, York, Virginia. (1) Williamsburg is along the line between James City County and York County, Virginia, though it is mostly in James City County. James Geddy's will and estate were filed in York County.

[Transcription of the will and proving of the will of James Geddy, Sr., made by Rebecca Lambert, 1 April 2000. There is a hole in the bottom middle on the page, so some words are missing. Other times the writing is so cramped that I cannot read a particular word. I'll mark those places with asterisks. If a likely word seems fitting, I've finished it in [brackets].]

He was married to Anne before 1730. I don't know where they got married. Their children are listed in the order they were written in James, Sr.'s will, except the youngest daughter, Sarah, who was born after the will was written. Anne was born before 1715. I think it likely Anne was at least fifteen years old before the birth of her second son in 1731. She died after 1784. James GEDDY and Anne had the following children:

child+2 i. David GEDDY.
child+3 ii. James GEDDY Jr..
child+4 iii. William GEDDY.
child5 iv. John GEDDY. He lived in Halifax, North Carolina.
child6 v. Elizabeth GEDDY.
child7 vi. Anne GEDDY.
child8 vii. Mary GEDDY.
child9 viii. Sarah GEDDY.
