"do you have any relatives that manufactured kirkman's brown soap , if so do they still and where can it be found. my mom used it when we were kids and we loved it but cannot seen to locate it now."

In reference to the soap, I understand the Kirkman & Son Co. was established in Brooklyn, NY in 1837.  They sold bars of Kirkman Borax Soap and boxes of Kirkman Pure White Flakes, both used for washing laundry and dishes.  The company was bought by Colgate-Palmolive in 1929 but Kirkman soap products were available in New York City until the mid-1950s.

Here's the text of a Kirkman ad:
  Mary had a little lamb.
Its fleece was white as snow.
And plain it was to all her friends
  The reason it was so.

For every morning when the sun
  Had gilt the hillside slope
Mary would wash her little lamb
  With Kirkman's Borax Soap.

And Mary's neighbors took the hint
  And every single one
Went and bought Kirkman's Borax Soap
  Before the day was done.

Kirkman & Son, 30 Catharine Street, New York

I wonder if we contact Colgate-Palmolive if they would have more information.  The company offered several premiums including silver-plated sppons, gold rings, silver watches, pictures and a matchsafe which was a tin litho, approx 7 1/2 inches of a washerwoman.  Her laundry bucket held the matches.  I'd love to find some of the premiums!
