Sacred to the memory of Matilda youngest
daughter of Richard KAY Esq. of Limefield in
this Parish and the beloved wife of Major
General Sir Thomas Harte FRANKS K.C.B. born
July 13th 1809 died November 19 1857, Having
followed her husbands fortunes through his
military career in India from 1842 to 1856
this heroic woman conscious of approaching
death nevertheless urged him to obey the
summons of duty and to leave her in England
for the war against the revolted army of
Hindustan, cheered him to the last by her
letters, but was not spared to welcome his
return. In grateful remembrance of her noble
and tender constancy this record is inscribed
by her bereaved husband.
