Notes for SAMUEL KEYS:
He is listed in the 1835 Census for Cherokees East of the Mississippi River. And in the Alabama Census of 1851 Jackson Co. Alabama. His information of birth lead us to believe he migrated from England to Virginia with a wife or with his mother and father. He may have met his wife in Virginia or came to Virginia in the British Services as a Revolutionary soldier. It is believed that Samuel Sr's wife was a white woman because Samuel Keys II, Isaac Keys and William Keys went to Alabama to stake a claim in the right of their Cherokee Indian wives. This is where the Indian blood in the Keys line began- with the marriages of Samuel, Isaac and William Keys to the three Daughters of Samuel Riley Sr. A white man and Gulustiyu, a full blood Cherokee of the Long Hair Clan.
