Possibly related Obituary kindly set to me by Orville E. Hamman Jr. The following Obituary was found in a scrapbook of newspaper clippings once owned by a lady in who probably lived either in, or near Middleport, NY (Middleport is in Niagara County, near Lockport..). The scrpbook is dated December 25, 1875 and that appears to be the date is was given as a blank scrapbook. Most of the clippings are from Middleport and surrounding towns and villages. A few (very few) are from other northeast states. There are many pages of obituaries and those dated all range between 1875 and 1880. This obitutuary was not dated but fell amoung others with dates ranging between 1875 and 1877. "At Holyoke, Mass., on the 9th inst., MARY, wife of Dr. N. W. Lane, daughter of Dr. L. Taylor, and sister of Mrs. E. V. DeGraff, of this city, aged 32 years. The early frosts take the rarest blossoms, a mysterious Providence often takes from our midst the rarest and dearest of our friends in the first flush of development and usefulness; and thus she was taken. She was young, but her trials and experience were greater than her years, and had refined a gentle nature into a Christian purity that graced every thought, and word, and act of her life. Whatsoever good her head could devise for her hands to do, her heart rejoiced in the action, and drew its daily blessings from those she blessed. Mrs. Lane was a lady of culture, retiring in her disposition, and of course known only to those who could appreciate her character and works, and an exemplary member of St. Paul's Church and Sabbath Scho ol. Although the delicate state of her health restrained the full accomplishment of her noble impulses, yet she found strength and means to bless many with her acts and pure thoughts. Her remains were taken to Rochester for interment. May the flowers she loved to cultivate for others' graves, adorn the sacred spot where her's is made." Need help with LANE in HI.
