[1] Joseph and Sarah Dewhurst sailed for the United States in 1846/1847. It was known that they had an infant daughter that died on ship while en route to the U.S. They landed in Pennsylvania, stayed a short while and migrated to Uxbridge, Ontario, Canada where Joseph worked as a cabinet maker. He later worked as a carpenter for the Bain Company, well-known wagon and carriage manufacturer.

[2] Sarah Dean, born June 1826 at Stoops, Township of Rimmington, Yorkshire, died 18 October, 1902 in Sandy Hook, Ontario, Canada; daughter of Thomas Dean, farmer and Mary Dean, both born abt. 1786 in Gisburn, Yorkshire. The 1841 British census shows Sarah, then 15, living with her parents and two siblings, Martha, 25, and James, 20 at Stoops, Township of Rimmington, Yorkshire. Joseph Dewhurst’s will is on micro-film at the Uxbridge-Scott Museum, dated 1861. The will stated his son as Thomas Dewhurst and that his wife Sarah Dean could not remarry before Thomas came of age and received the proper schooling or she would be excluded from his estate. On 8 December, 1870 in St. Paul’s Anglican Church, Uxbridge, Ontario, Canada, Sarah married George Graham, born 1808 in Markham, York, Ontario, Canada.

[1] Thomas started his career as a photographer; later became a locksmith and eventually started selling gooseberries, the raising of which had started out as a hobby. Military service: Private, G.O.G. 2nd Battalion, O.O.R.

[2] Born 22 October, 1843 in Uxbridge, Ontario, Canada, died 16 October 1921 in Thedford, Ontario, Canada; daughter of Oliver Willson and Jemima Tool. Thomas and Henrietta Dewhurst are both buried in the Quaker Hill Cemetery in Uxbridge, Ontario, Canada.
