[1] James is enumerated working as a Draper in 1841 in Horbury. In 1851, James and Sarah live at 14 C. Square, Commercial Street, Huddersfield with three small children where he continues to work as a Draper. In 1861, the family has moved to Trafalgar Street in Bradford, Yorkshire where James works as a Clothes Dealer. In 1871, the family address is 37 Trafalgar Street, Christchurch, Bradford, Yorkshire where James has retired.

[2] Sarah Pickles was 25 years old at the time she married James and from Huddersfield. Her father is listed as Isaac Pickles, Rope Maker. The couple was married by Licence. Witnesses were ? Walker and James Bowes. In 1881, Sarah lives with her daughter and son-in-law, Michael and Sarah Roberts Pickles Hodgson (see footnote 4) and works as a Domestic. in 1891, Sarah still lives with the Hodgson's at age 92.

[3] Richard shows up married in the 1881 census to a Sarah Elizabeth (b. abt. 1851, Bradford, Yorkshire) with three children, all b. in Bradford, Yorkshire: Mary (Margarety) Emily, b. abt. 1873; Annie Ethelwyn, b. abt. 1875 and Maud Beatrice b. abt. 1879. He works as a Confectioner & Grocer in Shipley, Yorkshire. In 1891 and 1901, the family lives at 8 Bromley Street, Shipley and have added two more children to the family; Martha R, b. abt. 1883, and Richard A., b. abt. 1889, both in Shipley. Richard works as a Staff Merchant's Asst. and as an Insurance Agent.

[4] In 1881, Elizabeth lives with her sister and brother-in-law, Michael and Sarah Roberts Pickles Hodgson (see footnote 4) and is listed as an Invalid; she does not show up in the following census records.

[5] Michael and Sarah Roberts Pickles Hodgson show up in 1881 living at 24 St. Paul's Rd, Shipley, Yorkshire. Michael was b. abt. 1846 in Bradford, Yorkshire and works as a Warehouseman and Grocer. The couple has two children: Harry Roberts Hodgson, b. abt. 1876, Bradford, Yorkshire and Lilian, b. abt. 1877 in Idle near Bradford, Yorkshire. By 1891, another daughter, Muriel, b. abt. 1882, Shipley, Yorkshire is added to the family. Lilian is not enumerated. The family lives at 24 Northfield Place, Bradford, Yorkshire and Michael works as a Staff Warehouseman.

[6] James shows up living at 9 Bracken Hall, Baildon, Yorkshire in 1881 with a wife, Anne M (b. abt. 1856, Bradford, Yorkshire). They are described as operating a Refreshment House/Coffee House and as Inkeepers. By 1891, James and Annie have children, all born in Baildon, Yorkshire: Jonathan W., b. abt. 1882; Mary E., b. abt. 1885; and Annie F., b. abt. 1888. They live at 16 Old Glen House, Baildon, Yorkshire and James has the same occupations before except that he has added Devonshire Cheese making to his talents! In 1901, they all live at the same address and James has a multitude of talents, but it is all overwritten as "Baker."

[7] George Herbert shows up in 1881 living in the household of his sister, Sarah Roberts Dewhirst Hodgson (see footnote 3) at 24 St. Paul's Rd, Shipley, Yorkshire. He works as a clerk presumably for Michael Hodgson. In 1891, George has moved on to Conisford, Norwich, Norfolk where he is single and works as a Manufacturer's Clerk at 15 Bloomsbury Place. In 1901, George is still in Norwich, working as a Hosiery Manufacturer's Clerk and has married Mary ?, b. abt. 1858 in Mumbles, Wales. No children are listed.
