Caleb Swindell Boomer
July 18, 1840 - January 6, 1913
Caleb Swindell Boomer was the son of Henry Boomer (1797-1845) and Sarah McGowan (1809-1866). He was married 1st ca. 1868 to Martha A. Caffee, 2nd in 1873 to Dorcas E. Midyette (1849-by1881) and 3rd in 1876 to Mary Ann Swindell ((1858-1886). With his wife Dorcas he had a son: Lee M. Boomer (1875-aft.1900) and with Mary Ann, he had the following children: Charles Boomer (1879-1967), Indiana "Anna" Boomer (1883-1957) and Mary Eliza Boomer (1884-1953).
During the Civil War, Caleb was a Sergeant in Company H, 33rd NC Regiment (Dixie Invincibles) of the Confederate States Army. He enlisted October 17, 1861 in Hyde County. The 33rd Regiment participated in a number of major battles as part of the Army of Northern Virginia under General Lee. Caleb was wounded in the shoulder at Fredericksburg, Va. on December 13, 1862. He retired to Invalid Corps on November 2, 1864 by reason of disability.
After the war, Caleb was a farmer and was active in his community and his church, in which he was a deacon. He is buried in the Swan Quarter Township of Hyde County.
