Note: There is a question if Austin or Anson were sons of Amos & Louisa McGowen,
and also a question as to whether Austin / Anson were indeed the same person.
In the 1870 division of the estate of their mother, Louisa McGowen, two of
the heirs Jesse McGowen and James W. McGowen paid $100 to their brothers and
sisters for their mother's 40 acre farm in Webster Co., MO. Their siblings
and their spouses are: Bartlett & Madecy Gentry, Morgan Ross & Manervy
McGowen, Russell G. & Elizabeth Jones, Morgan Sylvester & Martha McGowen,
Cornelius B. & Celia Lynch, Charity Mahan (husband Robert Samuel Mahan
deceased, Sterling P. and Frances Hughes and Robert & Mary M. McGowen.
If Austin/Anson were descendants of Amos & Louisa McGowan, they would have
been included also. If they were deceased but had living offsprings, they
would also have been heirs. Bethany (McGowen) Gentry, daughter of Austin
McGowen, was not included as a heir. All comments are welcome in hopes of
solving this question. Email:[email protected]
