Sarah Elizabeth (Betty) McGowen, daughter of Bryant & Rebecca (Clark) McGowen, was born about October, 1856 in White County, Tennessee. She had moved to Caldwell County, Kentucky by 1879 with her parents. Betty married on August 17, 1880 to John Conway Hensley in Christian County, Kentucky. He was born about November, 1847 in Kentucky, son of Jim and Liza (Mobley) Hensley. By 1900 Sarah had had five children, three of whom were living and two of whom were still at home. Sarah died on Feburary 9, 1924 in Caldwell County and John died there on May 11, 1931. Their three children who lived to maturity were: Teresa Cal Florida, Mildred Pearl and Mally M.A.C. Hensley.
