She was one of a family of six children, all of whom preceded her in death save a sister, Mrs. Martha Braney, of Hopedale, Ill.

After marriage Mr and Mrs Summers engaged in farming and in April, 1891, came to Ringgold county, Iowa, and settled on a farm near Tingley, where they resided either on the farm or in Tingley. When Mrs Summers was quite young she became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church. When coming to Iowa she united with the Church of Christ at Ellston and later placed her membership with the Church of Christ at Tingley. Her family, her neighbors, and her brethren of the church unite in proclaiming her life as one of consistant, faithful Christian purpose. Deceased had been in usual health except from infrequent attacks of heart trouble until Saturday, Nov 6, when she was compelled to take to her bed. She gradually failed until release came on Friday afternoon. Aside from a sister in Illinois and a large family of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, there are a host of friends and neighbors who unite with those who mourn the loss of this faithful loved one.

Farewell, dear mother, sweet thy rest
Weary wth years and worn with pain.
Farewell, till in some happy place
We shall behold thy face again
‘Tis ours to miss thee all our years,
And tender memories of thee keep.
Thine in the Lord to rest, for so,
He giveth His beloveth sleep.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Christian church conducted by her
pastor, Rev. Burr and interment made in the Tingley cemetery.

Obituary of Elvira (Mobley)Bass

Mrs. Elvira Bass died at her home near Canton last Thursday about 6a.m. She had been slightly ill about 3 o'clock the same morning but not regarded by her sons who were with her as in a dangerous condition. It was probably a paralytic stroke which carried her away so suddenly. The deceased was almost 67 years of age. Her husband died less than a year ago after quite a long illness. Seven children are left some of whom are residents of Box Butte county and some live in Montana and Iowa. Mrs. Bass was a truly good woman, a splendid mother, a noble Christian. Higher praise than this cannot be accorded anyone. To the children thus twice bereaved in less than a year, all extend heartfelt sympathy.

Mrs. Elvira Bass who had been ill only a week or so, died at her home east of Canton December 18, 1902. She was born March first 1836 near Moberly, Mo, upwards of 66 years ago and has lived in this part of the county for several years. She leaves seven children to mourn her death, three sons and four daughters. The funeral services for her were held from the Congregational church in Hemingford. 12/18/1902
