HOT SPRINGS ----Services for Hazel Burda Parkins, 87, resident
of the South Dakota State Veterans
Home, will be Monday at 10 am in the Veterans Home Chapel with
the Rev. Peter Dahberg officiating.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery under direction of McColley's
Chapel of the Hills.
Mrs Parkins died Tuesday at Rapid City Regional Hospital.
She was born Aug 30, 1897, and attended Lamona High School and
Graceland College at Lamona, Iowa.
She was married to Earl Summers at Lamona and, in 1947, to Walter
Ernie Parkins at Hot Springs.
She lived at Lamona, on a homestead in Wyoming, at Edgemont, Oelrichs,
Buffalo Gap in South Dakota and
at Hot Springs, where she had retired after working in the food
service department of the State Veterans
Home.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day
Saints.
Survivors include three sons, Burl L. Summers of Panama City,
Fla., Garth E. Summers of Temple Hills,
Md., and Harold "Jack" Summers of Arcadia, Calif.; a
daughter, Donna "Dot" Johnson, Hot Springs; a
sister, Violet Lilly, Sheridan, Wyo.; a brother Harold Hill, Mesa
Ariz.; and 11 grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her husbands,
Earl Summers and Walter Parkins, a daughter, Joyce, a sister
and a grandson.

BERGERSON.----At Lamoni, Iowa,
March 23, 1907, Bro. Nels Bergerson, aged 76 years, 5 months,
and 5
days. Born in Norway in 1830; came to America in 1868; baptized
in Missionbrand, Illinois, in 1870, by Bro.
Andrew Hayer, came to Lamoni in 1889. His life was one of faithfulness,
honesty and strict integrity. Poor in
worldly goods, he was rich in faith and good works. Wife, two
sons, and three daughters feel their loss, but
know he is at rest. Sermon by Bro. H.A. Stebbins, assisted by
Bro. John Smith.

BERGERSEN.----At Creston, Iowa,
on December 25, 1910, Sr. Ellen Bergersen, aged 81 years and 28
days.
Born in Norway in 1829; married Nelse Bergersen in 1854. Came
to LaSalle County, Illinois, in 1868;
baptized in 1870, by Bro. Andrew Hayer; came to Lamoni in 1889,
and Bro. Bergersen died March 23, 1907.
Two sons, three daughters, twenty-four grandchildren, and twenty-two
great-grandchildren survive her. Her
body was brought to Lamoni and laid by the side of her husband's
body. Services in charge of Bro. John
Smith, sermon by Bro. H.A. Stebbins.

CLARENCE ODELL DIES SUDDENLY
Clarence Odell, 85, of rural Creston, died suddenly at his home at 1 p.m. Thursday after suffering a heart attack. He was a retired farmer and had lived in the Creston community since he was a child.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Coens Home for Funerals. Rev. Traverse Harrison, pastor of the First Christian church, will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery.
His family said that a memorial fund is being established for the Heart Association. Contributions may be left at the funeral home or Coens furniture store.
Clarence Odell was born in Kansas, July 2, 1886. He was the son of Frank and Agnes Bergersen Odell. He moved here from Kansas as a child and had lived here the rest of his life.
He was married at Des Moines, Sept. 1, 1910, to Mary Ethel Downing, who died June 13, 1966.
Mr. Odell is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Robert (Arlene)
Stalker of Creston and Mrs. Raymond (Elinor) Spriggs of Marshalltown;
a son, Franklin E. Odell of Albia; four grandchildren and two
great grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Lou Fust of
Creston.
