Mary came to South Carolina in 1732 with her first husband, David Wilson. They were among the first settlers of Williamsburg Township. According to A. W. Strawn's 1984 publication, Mary Witherspoon McKee's great grandparents were the Reverend and Lucy Welch Witherspoon. Lucy Welch Witherspoon was the daughter of The Reverend and Elizabeth Knox Welch and the granddaughter of the Reverent Know and his wife, Lady Margaret Stuart (changed from Stewart circa 1400), a direct descendant (8th generation) of Robert II, first King of the House of Stewart (King of Scotland), also a direct descendant of Robert The Bruce, King of Scotland, and Louis IV, Charles III, Louis II, Charles II, Louis I, Charlemagne and Pepin III, all Kings of France. Charlemagne, born April 2, 742, was King of France and became Emperor of the West in 800 and died January 28, 814 (most sources of information cited herein are listed in "The Ancestors and Descendants of John White and Sarah Elizabeth Green With Allied Lines" by Anne White Strawn).
Mary's first cousin, the Reverend John Witherspoon, came to America in 1768 to become the President of the College of New Jersey in Princeton. He was a member of the Continental Congress and a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
