[376] William Ethelbert Ervin b. 9-28-1809, d. 10-6-1860, m. Sarah Magee Kennedy as above,, daughter of Francis LaGette Kennedy. (Francis had a brother Rev. William Magee Kennedy, one of the early circuit riders for the Methodist Church of North and South Carolina. Their father was Francis Kennedy who claimed Virginia as his home. Before the Revolutionary War he married Sarah Magee. Francis Kennedy, according to the Virginia Historical Magazine, just before the War brought a ship load of soldiers and plenty of Ammunition from Portsmouth, Va., to S.C., which he signed for as agent. In the "Biographical Sketches of Eminent Itinerant Ministers," by Rev. James Stacy, it is stated speaking of William, "His father Mr. Francis Kennedy, was a genuine patriot, and knew how to establish Civil Liberty and to resist foreign oppression. He claimed Virginia as his native place, but through the guidance of Divine Providence, he united in marriage with Miss Sarah Magee of Marlsborough District, S.C., a most excellent lady." One Francis Kennedy is listed in the company which selected Captain Lide their officer in the Revolution as reported in "The Old Cheraws."
