[781] We're not 100% sure that John Cox married a woman named Mary Ann Brown. THat is only family legend, with no real source that we know of to back it up. After she was widowed she married a man named Gideon Jennings in Orangeburg, SC. In two Jennings family history books she is listed as "Ann _______" or "Ann Unknown" with no reference to her having been married previously. She and Gideon Jennings had a son named Artemus Jennings and you can see that John C. Cox, Sr. named a son Artemus Jennings Cox, so there obviously was a connection.
