Will:
I, John Ellerbe, of the State and County aforesaid being of sound and disposing mind & memory, but mindful of the uncertainty of life, do hereby make, execute & ordain this my last Will & Testament, in manner and form as follows, viz-
To my son Alexander W. Ellerbe, I give devise and bequeath all the Estate, of which I may die seized & possessed, both real and personal subject however to the following limitations & conditions. It is my desire that my daughter Mary P. Ellerbe who is now in the Lunatic Asylum of South Carolina, shall, out of the proceeds of my Estate, receive an amount annually, sufficient to provide a comfortable support for her, so long as it shall be necessary for her to remain in that or some other asylum, and in the event she should ever recover her reason, then it is my will & desire & I hereby give & bequeath to the said Mary P. Ellerbe the following named negroes & the increase of the females thereof, vix - Cato, Ann, Andrew, Jane, Frances, John, Caroline, little George, young Maria, Olivia, Charlotte, little Ellen & Anthony. But in the event my said daughter should never recover her reason, then I give, devise & bequeath to my son Alexander W. Ellerbe my whole estate, hereby enjoining upon him the duty of making such provision as to secure the comfortable support of my daughter as aforesaid -
I hereby appoint my son Alexander W. Ellerbe Executor of this my last Will & Testament.
