Notes for Jeremiah JEREMIAH

Land Tax Assessment records show Jeremiah as the Tenant of the Duke of
Beaufort at Forest, Llansamlet in 1809/10. The tax paid for the year was
4, the largest sum shown in the record for that year, so the tenement
must have been large and valuable. He is shown still there, paying the
same amount each year, through to 1814/15 - records later than that have
not been searched. (LTA records are on microfilm in the County Archives,
Swansea.) The name of the tenement changes from a simple "Forest" in
1809/10 to "Forest Isaf" in 1810/11 to "Lower Forest" in 1812/13.

Jeremiah is listed in the St David's Probate Index, ref. SD1836/195, as
being of Glyncollen (a tenement in Parcel Clase according to the 1764
Survey of the Lordship of Gower, at that time belonging to Geo. Venables
Vernon Esq.). He died intestate according to the oath of his widow
Hannah, made on 24 December 1836. The estate was recorded as being under
200. The pro forma states that he died leaving seven children.

The relevant MI in Llangyfelach Parish churchyard says:
"sacred to the memory of JEREMIAH JEREMIAH of Ynisglyncollen in this
parish
who died the ninth day of March 1829 aged 56 years
Also HANNAH JEREMIAH wife of the above JEREMIAH JEREMIAH who died June 4
1849 aged 67 years"
