Christian Bender was one of those younger children.  He was my great grandfather through his son Moses and Amanda Keim.  My parents, John and Florence (Snider) Bender, are buried in the Cottonwood Cemetery in Henry Co.,Iowa. Many other relatives can be found in cemeteries surrounding Kalona, Iowa in Washington County, Iowa.  More information on Daniel Bender can be found in the revised edition of Descendants of Daniel Bender published by the Bender Association.  Associated names: Bender/Keim, Hochstetler/Hertzler. Spousal names include Kempf, Glick, Gerber, and others that have not been extensively researched so no further information is available.  Books have been published by the Bender Family Association.

FULTON INDEX

This collection contains several papers, including Revolutionary War Records, North Mountain and South Mountain Fultons in Augusta Co., Virginia, Etc. Some still under revision so please be patient.

Go directly to: James Fulton - Augusta County, Virginia through William Fulton, Martha Fulton, Harvey Fulton, to.......HUGH FULTON to Washington County, Iowa ca. 1857. Our branch of the Fulton family are descended through Martha Fulton, who was unmarried.  Harvey Fulton's father is unknown although he bears the Fulton name and inherited the family lands.  Mrs. Bushman's notes indicated there was no stigma to his birth.  In those early days, young men and women often established a home before a circuit rider came to the area to be married.  If for some reason the male spouse died or was killed before the marriage occurred, a child might be born outside of wedlock.

Mary Ward, wife of James Fulton, II is identified in her father's will as "Molly" Fulton. Ward Family Notes.

Also check out James grandsons Andrew Fulton , Robert Fulton, etc. for Revolutionary records and other Fulton traditions.

Marriage records - Fultons of Rockingham County, Virginia - Some to Gallia County, Ohio

Fultons of Massachusetts

Fultons of Rockingham County, Virginia - unknown present whereabouts of this family. Believed to be descendants of John Fulton

Samuel Fulton Land Deed in Ohio County - no known connection to the Augusta County, Virginia Fultons.

Garret(t), Gerret, Jarret(t), and Jarrard - Due to the many mispellings and the interchangeable way the names Garret, Jarret, Garrard and Jarrard were used, careful analysis of early records and the location of their homes was essential to separating them out. There was a division within the family with some deliberately changing their names to distinguish themselves from a branch of the family less honorable in their sight. Thus a separate index has been prepared with multiple documents of copied census, court and land records so each can verify for themselves what they believe to be correct.

Gerret - Because of the many mispellings of the Jarrard name in the eighteenth and early nineteenth century and some difference's of opinion as to the family of Andrew Jarrett/Garrett, I have included a page of church records and other source records using the Gerret spelling.  Due to estrangement within the Jarrard/Garrard Family some changed the spelling of their name and some were mispelled by recordkeepers. It is important to know that during the early pioneer days the "J" and "G" were used interchangeably and the name Jarrard/Garrard was pronounced Jarrett by the people of southwest Pennsylvania. If I asked about the Jarrard's they would start telling me about the Jarretts. They did not pronounce the final "r:"

A separate page will contain source records found spelled Jarret(t). I was told there were good Jarretts and bad Jarretts and the good ones weren't necessarily the church going ones indicating the Garrard/Corbley family in Green Co., Pa.

Gerrard  - Chapter I -Origin of the Gerrard name - First chapter of book I published in 1990.  Background history found in the old records of England.  Lancaster and Chester Co., England and the alumni records of Cambridge, etc. Scanning in progress of the book I published in 1990.
