HOLLINGSWORTH MISCELLANY

  (1) Karen S. Hollingsworth, Coos Bay, Ore., pled guilty Feb 19 in the
Municipal Court at Florence to charge of failure to appear in court for
a traffic offense. Suspending the sentence, the court put Hollingsworth
on l8 months probation and to pay $200 court fine, $187 in prior fines,
a $20 victim's assistance fee and $22 for court assessments and not op-
erate a motor vehicle unless properly insured and licensed. (The Sius-
law News Feb 27, 1991, p. 2A thanks to Eileen Gray of Florence, Ore.
  (2) Boone County, West Virginia History, 1990, by the Boone County
Genealogical Society, Inc., Walsworth Publishing Company, has on pp.
64, 65, Dallas Hollingsworth, teacher, principal of Brushton Elementary
School in existence during 1931. (Thanks to Jay B. Price, Councilman
and Mayor Pro-Tem, Bell, California.)
  (3) On June 27, 1991, the Daytime Emmy Awards were broadcast at 9 PM
on Channel 2 (CBS) here in Los Angeles. Procter and Gamble Productions
received a special Emmy, given by Helen Wagner, star of "As the World
Turns," since it began on TV in mid 1956 (which we began to watch in
the following year because others in the cast were Don McLaughlin
(David Harding, Counterspy), Santos Ortega, and William Johnstone (The
Shadow) three favorite old-time radio actors). The Emmy was for the
Lifetime Achievement Award. If Tom Hollinsworth (1796-1842) had not
come from County Wexford, settle at Cincinnati and start his soap and
candle factory there, so that little Jim Gamble could become his ap-
prentice and later co-found Procter & Gamble Company in 1837, later to
produce "The Ivory Soap," the most famous soap in history, and much
later to sponsor radio drama in the daytime, thus dubbed "soap opera,"
that award could not have been dreamed of. So us Wexfords take a big
chunk of the credit for it. Frederick Hollingsworth was there when
young Gamble was learning the trade. We'uns taught him good - real
good.
