Henry Hollingsworth in Dublin!
-Continued-

if the populace returned, or if they sought other places to live out
of plain fear of reprisal. There are no Portadown records until the
Hearth Tax of 1664 when Valentine Hollinsworth (sic) appears at Bally-
vickcrannell, and we know he repurchased the 120 acre farm there from
Michael Harrison of Co Antrim in 1665 - and that it was an outright
purchase, not a lease, a very surprising thing in Ireland. The 1674
documents we found in 1970 and the 1632 award we published here a few
years ago, do not say when Henry, Valentine's father, died. Therefore,
This man in Dublin could be him. He, however, might be a younger man
who later turned up in Surry County, Virginia in 1669/70 and was
"very aged" in 1692, (HR Sept 1968:103; Sept 1973:91.) But "very aged"
in 1692 was not very aged by our standards - maybe 70-75, so he was
too young to be Val's father. Besides, he still paid the 1704 Quit-
Rents in Surry County Va.
He could be a young Henry Hollingsworth who later married Eliza-
beth Newell, daughter of John Newell, Six-Clerk in Chancery Court, in
Dublin. This Henry was at King Hill, Co Down (a.k.a. Kinkell) in 1696
and back there again by 1711. But 1665 may be too early for him to
be an adult. He may, also, be just another chance Henry Hollings-
worth who muddies up our waters. But I tend to doubt that.
By coincidence, the Liberties of Donore were the later home of
two or three or four of my direct ancestors, Isaac Vauteau (d 1717)
the tanner and his son John Jacob Voto and their wives and the Le-
Gagneurs. They were French Refugees (Huguenots) who first fled to
London in 1685, then to Dublin. They are some of the ancestors of
Great-Grandma, Rachel Mcfadden Hollingsworth. They came to Donore
much later than when this Henry Hollingsworth lived there.
You can be sure I'll be searching for more data, now that I have
an exact location. Meanwhile, here are the complete lists:
