DEATH COME TO WELL KNOW EAST LIVERPOOL DIPPER
"Jerry" Riddle, 56, Succombs to Complications After Brief Illness.

Was Trustee and Past Officer of Dippers' Local No. 18

PASSING LAMENTED

Isaiah Riddle, more familiarly known to East Liverpool potters as "Jerry", who learned his trade as a dipper in England, where he was born and grew to young manhood, died at his home at 1104 Riverview Street last Thursday evening , following a brief but acute illness of a complication of diseases.

He had made his home her for more than 25 years, and at the time he was stricken, was working at the Potters Co-operative plant, once known as the "Dresden."  At other stages of his career he had worked at the New End of the Knowles, Tayor & Knowles Potteries Company, and at the old National Pottery, on the River Road.  He was recognized by all of his employers as a very efficient and a dependable workman, and was held in the hightest esteem by fellow workmen and associates alike.  He had been a trustee and past officer of the Dippers' Local No. 18 for a number of years, and was loyal at all times to his local union and to the Brotherhood.  Both inside and outside of the organization his death is lamented as that of a worthy type of husband, father, citizen, and friend.

Funeral servies were held Monday afternoon in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, of which he had been a communicant and regular worshipper, the Rev. Lionel C. Diffored, rector, officiating.  Interment was made in Riverview Cemetery.  The pallbearers were Thos. Hancock, John Dimmock, William Pittinger, W. H. Moore, William Rhue and Mr. Crawford.

The Fraternal Order of Eagles and Sons of St. George lodges, of which Mr. Riddle was a member, were officially represented at the funeral.

Mrs. Harriett Riddle

Mrs. Harriett Brassington Riddle, 77, widow of Isaiah Riddle, died Monday at 6:45 p. m. in her home, 1104 Riverview St., following a long illness.  

Mrs. Riddle was born in England.  The family came to from Chester more than 40 years ago.  She was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church.

She leaves two sons, Frederick Riddle, and Robert E. Riddle, both of East Liverpool; two daughters, Mrs. Ben Jones of East Liverpool, and Mrs. Ed Smith of Wheeling, and nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  Mr. Riddle died in 1924.

Rites will be held Thursday at 2 p. m. in the late home by Rev. David W. Skeen, pastor of the Orchard Grove Community Methodist Church.  Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Friends may call Wednesday night at the late home.
(Harriet died on January 12, 1948.  Using the obit, I would say this was in the East Liverpool Review on Tuesday, January 13, 1948.  The obit says Chester?  They came to East Liverpool from New York in 1900 to the best of our research records.)

Mrs. Anna Jones

Mrs. Anna Mabel Jones, 72, of 1068 Oak Street., a retired seamstress and widow of Ben Jones, died this morning at 4:50 at City Hospital after an illness of 2 1/2 months.

A native of Syracuse, N.Y., Mrs. Jones was born Sept. 7, 1895, a daughter of the late Isaiah Riddle and Harriett Brassington Riddle.  She had resided here for 70 years.  She worked for the Arrow Pants Shop, retiring in 1964.  She belonged to the Orchard Grove Community Methodist Church.  Her husband died Dec. 27, 1964.

She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Kendall (Ruth) Baker, and a brother, William Riddle, both of East Liverpool; a sister, Mrs. Ed (Louise) Smith of Wheeling, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Martin Funeral Home by the Rev. Phillip N. Carl.  Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Ben Jones, 57, died today at 6:00 a.m. at his home, 1058 Oak St.

Mr. Jones was born in England and had lived in East Liverpool 29 years.  He was employed as a kilnman by the Edwin M. Knowles China Co. in Newell.  He was a member of the Orchard Grove Community Methodist Church and the Men's Bible Class.

He leaves his widow, Mrs. Anna M. Riddle Jones; a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Baker of the Fredericktown Road, and four grandchildren.

Rites will be held Wednesday at 3:30 p.m. at the Martin Funeral Home by Rev. David W. Skeen, pastor of the Orchard Grove Church.  Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Friends may call Tuesday night at the funeral home.

   Mrs. Ruth E. Baker, 60, of 50881 Duke Rd. died Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a week's illness.

    A life long resident, Mrs. Baker was born here Feb. 27, 1918, a daughter of Benjamin E. Jones and Anna Mabel Riddle Jones.
 She was graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1935.  

   Mrs. Baker was a member of the former Orchard Grove United Methodist Church and the Vandalia Extension Homemakers Club.

   Besides her husband, Kendall W. Baker, whom she married March 22, 1939, survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Charles (Bonnie) Ryan, Mrs. Noble (Diana) Rose of Akron, Mrs. Carl (Nancy) Hadley, Mrs. Edwin (Linda) Morgan and Mrs. Larry (Karen) Gibson, all of East Liverpool, and nine grandchildren.

   Services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. from the Martin Funeral Home here.  Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Kendall W. Baker, 77

East Liverpool - Kendall W. Baker, 77, of Duke Road died Thursday, Oct. 13, 1994, at the Medical Center of Beaver following a six-month illness.

He was born in Meigs County, Ohio, Dec. 3, 1916, as son of the late Charles W. and Bertha Bentz Baker.

He lived here most of his life.  He was employed 37 years as a steel chaser on the open hearth at the former Crucible Steel Co. before retiring in 1978.  He graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1934.  He attended the Calcutta United Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Farm Bureau of Columbiana County.

His first wife, Ruth Jones Baker, whom he married March 22, 1939, died Aug. 3, 1978.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqualine Skeens Coleman Baker of Calcutta; five daughters, Mrs. Charles (Bonnie) Ryan of Chester, Mrs. Carl (Nancy) Hadley, Mrs. Edwin (Linda) Morgan and Mrs. Larry (Karen) Gibson of Calcutta and Mrs. Noble (Diana) rose of Akron, Ohio; a brother, Ross W. Baker of Calcutta; a sister, Leora Schmitt of Calcutta; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Dr. John Cheetham of the Chester First Presbyterian Church will conduct services at 11 a.m. Monday at the Martin Chapel of the Martin-Altmeyer Funeral Home.  Burial will be in Riverview  Cemetery.
