Washington R. Baker, 76, formerly of East Liverpool, died Monday at 4 p.m., in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Joseph Soehulen in Canton. Mr. Baker, who was born in Beaver county, Pa., was a member of Pennova lodge No. 880, Odd Fellows, and the National Brotherhood of Operative Potters.  He leaves five sons, Earl C., Lester L., and Charles W. Baker of East Liverpool; Taylor S. Baker of Barberton and Reed S. Baker of Alliance, and three other daughters, Mrs. John L.  Mrs. Itha Lucertia Soehnlen, 78, died at the home of a sister, Mrs. Ruth B. McDevitt, 1441 Main St., Wellsville, Monday at 5:30 p.m. following a hear attack.  She had been in poor health several months.  Mrs. Soehnlen was born Dec. 7. 1881, in Indusrty, a daughter of the Late Washington R. and Ora Marsh Baker.  She risided in East Liverpool several years before moving to Alliance, where she lived 10 years.  She then moved to Canton R. D. and resided there 25 years before moving to Wellsville 13 years ago.  She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Chursh.  Her husband, Joseph L. Soehnlen, is deceased.  Survivors include two other sisters, Mrs. Laura E. Reed, and Mrs. Cordelia E. Hood, both of East Liverpool; a step-daughter, Mrs. Lucy Cullum of Canton; two step-sons, George Soehnlen an Emil Soehnlen, both of Canton, and three brothers, Earl A. Baker, of East Liverpool, Lester L. Baker of Aliquippa and Taylor S. Baker of Akron.  Services will be held Thrusday morning at 10 at the church with Fr. John F. Samuel Reed Baker, 59, of 2304 Watson Ave., who had been appointed tool engineer at the Morgan Engineering Co., last Dec. 1, died at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the City Hospital after an illness of three weeks.  Mr. Baker started to work at Morgans in 1915 as a machinist and then quit in 1930.  He returned in 1942 and later became a foreman.  A native of East Liverpool, he lived in Alliance 35 years.  Mr. Baker was a member of Conrad Lodge 271, F. and A. M. and the Masonic quartet.  He is survived by his wife, Pearl Gallier Baker at the home.  Four sisters; Mrs. Itha Soehnlen, Mrs. Laura C. She was born April 12, 1892, in Meigs County, Ohio.  She was a daughter of William and Freda Dorst Bentz.

Mrs. Baker had resided in East Liverpool since 1907.  She was employed as a finisher in area potteries for many years, retiring in 1946.

She was a member of the Calcutta United Presbyterian Church.  Her husband, Charles W. Baker, died July 16, 1933.  

She is survived by one daughter, Leora Schmitt, with whom she resided; two sons, Ross Baker and Kendall Baker, both of East Liverpool, five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Dawson Funeral Home.  The Rev. David Snyder of the church will officiate.  Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.

Friends may call Sunday afternoon and evening at the funeral home.

Ross W. Baker, 79

East Liverpool - Ross W. Baker, 79, of Duke Road died at 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, 1994, at home following a brief illness.

He was born Aug. 29, 1915 in Portland, Ohio, a son of the late Charles W. and Bertha Bentz Baker.

He lived most of his life here.  He was employed 37 1/2 years in the cold strip department at the former National Drawn Steel and Crucible Steel Co.  The recipient of a Purple Heart, he served with the 776 Tank Destroyer Batallion of the U.S. Army during World War II and compiled more that 550 days of continuous combat duty in Africa, Italy, France and Austria.  He graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1934.

He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, the Tri-State Beagle Club, Masonic Lodge 315, American Legion Post 374, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6450 and the East Liverpool High School Alumni Associaton.  He was a 32nd degree member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Steubenville.

His wife, Vesta Mohr Baker, whom he married Nov. 14, 1942, died Sept. 10, 1992.

He is survived by a sister, Leora B. Schmitt of East Liverpool; a brother, Kendall W. Baker of East Liverpool and five nieces and nephews.

Pastor Harry Fox will conduct services at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church.  The Tri-State Veterans Burial Group will accord full military honors graveside at Riverview Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Dawson Funeral Home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and at the church an hour before the services Saturday.

Kendall W. Baker, 77

East Liverpool - Kendall W. Baker, 77, of Duke Road died Thursday, Oct. 13, 1994, at the Medical Center of Beaver following a six-month illness.

He was born in Meigs County, Ohio, Dec. 3, 1916, as son of the late Charles W. and Bertha Bentz Baker.

He lived here most of his life.  He was employed 37 years as a steel chaser on the open hearth at the former Crucible Steel Co. before retiring in 1978.  He graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1934.  He attended the Calcutta United Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Farm Bureau of Columbiana County.

His first wife, Ruth Jones Baker, whom he married March 22, 1939, died Aug. 3, 1978.

He is survived by his wife, Jacqualine Skeens Coleman Baker of Calcutta; five daughters, Mrs. Charles (Bonnie) Ryan of Chester, Mrs. Carl (Nancy) Hadley, Mrs. Edwin (Linda) Morgan and Mrs. Larry (Karen) Gibson of Calcutta and Mrs. Noble (Diana) rose of Akron, Ohio; a brother, Ross W. Baker of Calcutta; a sister, Leora Schmitt of Calcutta; nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

The Rev. Dr. John Cheetham of the Chester First Presbyterian Church will conduct services at 11 a.m. Monday at the Martin Chapel of the Martin-Altmeyer Funeral Home.  Burial will be in Riverview  Cemetery.

Friends may call at the chapel Sunday afternoon and evening.

   Mrs. Ruth E. Baker, 60, of 50881 Duke Rd. died Thursday at 2:30 p.m. in West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a week's illness.

    A life long resident, Mrs. Baker was born here Feb. 27, 1918, a daughter of Benjamin E. Jones and Anna Mabel Riddle Jones.
 She was graduated from East Liverpool High School in 1935.  

   Mrs. Baker was a member of the former Orchard Grove United Methodist Church and the Vandalia Extension Homemakers Club.

   Besides her husband, Kendall W. Baker, whom she married March 22, 1939, survivors include five daughters, Mrs. Charles (Bonnie) Ryan, Mrs. Noble (Diana) Rose of Akron, Mrs. Carl (Nancy) Hadley, Mrs. Edwin (Linda) Morgan and Mrs. Larry (Karen) Gibson, all of East Liverpool, and nine grandchildren.

   Services will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. from the Martin Funeral Home here.  Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery.
