Nooyen Family Chart

The oldest available records of the Nooyen family are to be found in the Netherlands province of Noord Brabant, located in eastern Holland, in and around the cities of Gemert and Bakel. Like the original OTT family, the NOOYENs were staunch Roman Catholics, and those who emigrated brought that faith with them to America in the mid-1800s. Members of the NOOYEN family still flourish in Holland as well, and their contributions significantly helped to bring this information together.

The NOOYENs settled in and around the existing city of Green Bay, Wisconsin. Despite coming from the merchant class in Noord Brabant, most took up farming in America. They were among the earliest members of the Holy Cross parish in Bay Settlement, a small community northeast of Green Bay, proper.

NOTE: Nicholas was a merchant in Gemert. In March, 1850 Nicholas, Maria, and their six children boarded the
Ship Fuskina (listed in some sources as the Ship Triskina) in Rotterdam to set sail for a new life in faraway America. On May 25th they arrived at the Port of New York, from where they traveled by train and boat through the Great Lakes to the new State of Wisconsin. They arrived at the southern tip of Green Bay, a part of Lake Michigan, where they purchased land and established their farms.
