Although their origins may have been in Germany, the earliest records of the HERMAN / HERMANS family are found in the same area of Noord Brabant as those of the NOOYEN and MAAS families.  In 1894 the HERMAN and NOOYEN families were joined when Adelia HERMAN married Alexis NOOYEN in Bay Settlement, Wisconsin.

Notes: Albert and the start of his family left Europe through the Port of Antwerp in 1856 on the
Ship Chemborza, arriving in the Port of New York on May 3. The children Anna (Marie), Johan,
Hendrika, and Martin were born in Holland prior to the family's emigration. The remaining child-
ren were born in Wisconsin. Between 1870 and 1880, the family decided to drop the "s" at the
end of their name, and since that time records reflect the name "HERMAN".

Notes: When Rose's Herman's sister Adelia Hermans died in 1903 shortly after giving
birth to her sixth child, John and Rose Jacobs took in Adelia's youngest daughter Rose
Nooyen, who was only two years old at the time. Together they raised the child on their
farm in Preble, Brown County, WI (see note for Rose Nooyen).

Notes: Adelilia Hermans died shortly after the birth of her sixth child John. The cause
of  death was listed as "blood poisoning". After her death Alexis never remarried. The
two youngest children, Rose and John, were sent to live with relatives.
