The Continuing Search for the Lost Ancestors

April 6, 2005 - Added a photograph of Charles William Mann to Gwendolyn's Album.

October 31, 2004 - Added a Roll of Honor page to the Ninety Sixth Ohio Volunteer Infantry as well as making a number of small corrections and additions.

June 1, 2003 - Added the Archives page and put the first addition to this page the elaborate Poundstone family tree completed by George Poundstone in 1933.  Reworked the The Moses Cummins Mystery page so that it is easier to follow but did not add any new information.  Made some additions to First Missouri State Militia

February 1, 2003 - Added some information to the Military Secrets Page about Jacob and George Washington Kreiger in the Revolutionary War.  Did some editing of some of the pages and spruced up the Bamberger Electric Railroad page.

January 1, 2003 - Added a long list of Squire and Squires etc. to the GEDCOM over in WorldConnect Site including a Squire who lost his head for trying to assassinate the Queen of England.  Updated and removed some dead links added a link to the Squire genealogy site.  For these we have opened up a new page called the Skeleton Closet, just for fun, not to embarrass anyone.  Added a list of Kreigers to the GEDCOM over in WorldConnect Site, including Jacob Kreiger a veteran in the Revolutionary War.  Also added Jacob to the Military Secrets page.  Added a cemetery page for Gratiot, Ohio and the general location of the former Kreiger Cemetery.  Over in Ninety Sixth Ohio Volunteer Infantry we added a map showing Vicksburg, Millikin's Bend and Youngs Point, all of which were important locations in the history of this unit.  We added lots of information from Ohio county histories concerning the ninety sixth including a cemetery page with the know dead from the unit at the Vicksburg National Cemetery and a few others.

June 18, 2002 - Completed uploading the roster for the Ninety Sixth Ohio Volunteer Infantry and made a number of cosmetic changes in the Ninety Sixth's web site.  At this site we added some information in the cemetery pages including Bountiful, Utah, Greenwood Memorial Park, CA, Osage City, Kansas, and Simes Cemetery, Howard, Indiana.

May 26, 2002 - Added the Winthrop Fleet to the Immigrants and Ships page.  Added a roster of members to the First Missouri State Militia in time for Memorial Day and moved some information to a new page called Organization.

April 13, 2002 - We made some additional corrections of links imbedded in the Cemeteries pages and also updated the navigation bars on these same pages.  Currently I concentrating on getting the muster rolls for the  First Missouri State Militia and Ninety Sixth Ohio Volunteer Infantry and getting our census data in order.

March 24, 2002 - We split the "links" to other web sites out of the Sources page into a new page called Missing Links.  We edited out the broken links and made the interface on the page more graphic.

March 10, 2002 - We now have two separate sites one devoted to the First Missouri State Militia Cavalry at a slightly new address and one devoted to the Ninety Sixth Ohio Volunteer InfantryWe added quite a bit of new material to the Ninety Sixth Ohio site and a new look to both of the sites.  In the process of establishing the two new sites we have removed the duplicate material from this site, but the links are all updated so when you double click on any First Missouri or Ninety Sixth Ohio link you will be taken to the new sites.  You will also notice that we decided to go with the theme navigation buttons on the left hand side of the page.  It looks better and it is automatic so it is easier to update.  In addition we put "back to the top" buttons on the bottom of many of the longer pages to speed up getting around.

January 28, 2002 -  I have added some minor changes to the site and created a Immigrants and Ships page.  I moved the photograph of the "Minnesota" and added the photograph of the "William Tapscott" to this new page.   By the way this is the 102nd birthday of James S. Sims.

January 20, 2002 - The entry below is not quite true.  I did make changes to this site on January 1, but I made them to the wrong directory, so you could not see the changes.  It took me several weeks to find the problem.  All was not wasted time, however, because I decided to make a new companion site just devoted to the First Missouri State Militia Cavalry.  You can get to the new site simply by double clicking on this name  First Missouri State Militia Cavalry I think you find that this is a lot better arrangement.  I will leave what I have on the First at this web site for a while then edit them out and just provide links to  the new site.  I will eventually do the same thing for the 96th Ohio Volunteer Infantry.

January 1, 2002 - Made a number of additions and cosmetic changes to First Missouri State Militia Cavalry page and expanded the unit history into 1861 to 1863, 1864, and 1865.  A little beyond genealogy but interesting as it must have had a great impact on the life of James A. Sims.

December 15, 2001 - Combined Ancestors Discovered and the "Surnames Index Page"  to simply the navigation to the WorldConnect SiteI subsequently deleted the Surnames Index Page.  Added a good deal of information to the First Missouri State Militia Cavalry page and divided it into three page.  Lots of verbatim military reports involving the unity.  I am still working on this so there will be some additions in the near future.  As you can see I divided the What's New? and Site Map page  into two separate pages to give both a little more room.

October 31, 2001 - Pruned some branches from the family tree on the WorldConnect Site .  These included the unsubstantiated connection between Mary Sims and Peter Putman and unsubstantiated connection between Elizabeth Reynolds and Harvey Reynolds. These connections look good but according to other researchers it not so or totally unsupported by hard evidence.  We did added the names of the individuals in the Simes Cemetery, Howard, Indiana.   We added a page on  The 96th Ohio Volunteer Infantry and pages on the main battles that this unit was involved in during the Civil War.  In addition we added a page on the First Missouri State MilitiaCavalry and pages covering the battles in which this unit was engaged.

September 1, 2001 - Added a page under Military Secrets related to The 11th Airborne Division.   Gwendolyn's brother was a member of this division in World War II.  We have again made a lot of little editorial changes to the WorldConnect Site .

April 29, 2001 - Added two pages under the Military Secrets page related to the Indian Wars in which our 9th and 10th Great Grandparents in the Seeley line participated. Added a page under Old Places showing the lot given John Sweet in the original plat of Providence.

March 11, 2001 - Added two new ancestors to the Military Secrets page, Robert and Nathaniel Seeley.  Also added these to the WorldConnect Site along with some closely related individuals.  We have started to update the  Surnames Index Page , so that it shows the same numbers and surnames as the WorldConnect Site.

February 11, 2001 - Added new photographs of Alfred and Christiana Cummins in James' Album and added substitute obituaries for William and Frances Sims on the same page.   We have also made a lot of little editorial changes to the WorldConnect Site .

January 1, 2001 - Added World War II and Post War and Vietnam sections to the Military Secrets pageAdded two pages (Albert Cummins Place)  to the Old Places section on the Albert Cummins Homestead between Strawn and Hartford, Kansas.

December 10, 2000 - Did some edits to the  WorldConnect Site, including finding and eliminating three "islands" that resulted from edits to the data base done over the last two years.  Also made some corrections to the Dumbauld/Poundstone lines.  Added photographs James' Album  and better copies of some existing, thanks to Tess Conklin.  Added Helen H. Mann's obituary to Gwendolyn's Album.  The big new is the passing of one of our last links to James' generation, Esther Sims.  We will be doing a few things to honor her and her husband, Albert, in the next few months.

October 6, 2000 - August and September were busy months in Idaho due to the fires so we did not do a lot of genealogical work.  We did make some corrections on the Military Secrets  page and added James Cahoon for the War of 1812.   Also added a link in the Hancock Cemetery, Ohio page to another site with photographs of the cemetery.  Over in the World Connect site on RootsWeb

Idaho Sims at WorldConnect

we did a little pruning.  Some information about the Sweet line that we obtained from the FamilySearch site is in error and so we dropped it.  We added the site map to the left to give a single view of all of the site.  This should help you all to navigate to where you want to go.

July 30, 2000 - Added a photograph of Gwendolyn's great grandfather, Edward Thomas in Gwendolyn's Album.  Added obituaries for Edward Thomas, Sarah Thomas and Edward Knowles Mann.  Added line drawing of James' 8th great grandfather Philip Edelen, and a substitute obituary on James' Album.  On the Home Page we added a photograph of the three of us as we now look.  On the Military Secrets page we added some information on Isaac Brown.  We also started to use hot links in the What's New page, or is it over use?

July 16, 2000 - Spruced up the Cemetery page and added the Simes Cemetery, Howard, Indiana.

July 9, 2000 - The big news is the photograph on the Home Page of Gwendolyn, Eric, Allen and Patricia.  We have also added photographs of Ulla LeMain Sweet, J. F. Hirschvogel, Helen and Edwin Mann in Gwendolyns Album.  Thanks to Sharon Mann for sharing these with us all.  We also added a little about the Bamberger Electric Railroad that Edwin Mann was working for when he died.

June 29, 2000 - We added still more cemetery pages.  These include Pleasant Hill, MO and Oxford, Missouri, the Dumbauld-Miller Cemetery, PA, the Hancock Cemetery, Ohio, and the Blackfoot, Idaho cemetery.  We have also made a number of small changes to spruce up the site in general.

June 10, 2000 - Moved to RootsWeb.  Added a photograph of the steamer "Minnesota" that Joseph L. and Marie Hirschvogel came to the United States on in 1869.

June 3, 2000 - We added new  cemetery pages and found out that Amos Sweet is buried in Old Kirk Yard,  Attleboro MA.

May 14, 2000 - This What's New? page is what is new.  Rather than plow through the pages to see what I have added just take a look at this page to see what I am up to these days.

Nothing happened for a while because we took a trip to Egypt and in getting ready for this trip and recovering from it took a lot out of the genealogical effort.  Right now I am working on the Cemetery pages.  I am adding USGS quads and photographs where it is appropriate.  This time I added Barclay, Kansas and some photographs to the Minneapolis, Kansas page.

Long term we will add pages on the Old Places section and start on summaries of family histories.  We plan to move this site to RootsWeb as it will soon be too large for MSN.
