Christopher C. "Chris" Hoppes, 16, of Andreas R.1, died Sunday in his
home after a lengthy illness. Born in Palmerton, he was a son of Thomas G. Hoppes,
with whom he resided, and the late Dolores M. (Eberts) Hoppes. He would have been
sophomore at Tamaqua Area High School this year.
He was a member and a former acolyte of Ben Salem United Church of Christ, Lehighton R.7.
Survivors: Father; sister, Melissa S., and his stepmother, Bernadette R. (Kitchen) Hoppes,
both at home; paternal grandmother, Mrs. Dorothy Farmer of Drums, Luzerne County; maternal
grandfather, Willard F. Eberts of Andreas R.1, and maternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Alma
Haas of Clearwater, Fla. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday in the church. Call 7-8:30 p.m.

Amy Hoppes, 21, Glendale Ariz., died Thursday, March 4, 1999, in Glendale, Ariz.
Born Nov. 23, 1977 in Waterloo, Iowa, she was the daughter of Danny Hoppes,
who survives in Iowa, and Vicky Walker Arnold who survives in Rushville.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by one brother, Eric Hoppes of Osgood; and her
step-father, James Arnold of Waterloo, Iowa.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Burns Funeral Home in Milroy, with Majors
David Logan and Charles McCarty officiating.
Burial will be at East Brook Cemetery in Milroy.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Franklin L. Hoppes, Orange High Teacher
NEW HOPE, Pa. Franklin L. Hoppes of New Hope, a former West Orange, N.J.
resident and teacher at Orange (N.J.) High School, died here yesterday in the home of his
son, William F. Hoppes.
Services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in the First Presbyterian Church in Orange (House
of Prayer). Arrangements are by the Spinelli-Scura Home For Funerals, Orange.
Mr. Hoppes taught social studies and was the department chairman at Orange High School
from 1942 through 1971, when he retired. He was a 1930 graduate of Upsala College in East
Orange, N.J. with a bachelor of arts degree and a 1950 graduate of Montclair (N.J.) State
University with a master of arts degree. He later earned a New Jersey state certificate of
administration and supervision.
Mr. Hoppes also published over 100 articles for the Orange Transcript newspaper on famous
Americans, highlights of history and U.S. presidents.
He served as an elder and deacon at the First Presbyterian Church of Orange for over 25
years.
Born in Orange, he lived in West Orange for 34 years before moving to New Hope six months
ago.
Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Joan M. Bennett, and four grandchildren.

FALLSTON - Mrs. Judy K. Glass, 79, of Open View Retirement Home, formerly of
Shelby, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2000, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born July 26, 1921, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Fred and
Carrie Russ Hoppes. She was a homemaker and a member of Bethel Baptist Church of
Shelby.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, F.H. Hoppes, Wray
Hoppes and Bobby Gene Hoppes.
She is survived by two sisters, Leona Sansing of Shelby and Cora Lee of Plano, Texas; a
brother, Frank Mitchel Hoppes of Boiling Springs; and 14 nieces and nephews.
The funeral is today at 3 p.m. in the chapel of Clay-Barnette Funeral Home, with the Rev.
Stan Webb officiating. Burial will be in Cleveland Memorial Park.

Darwin W. Hoppes, Sr. died August 25, 2001
Darwin W. Hoppes, Sr., 62, died Aug. 25 in his residence at 37 Haven St.,
Schuylkill Haven.
He was the husband of Carol (Geist) Hoppes.
Born in West Penn Township, Schuylkill County, he was a son of the late Walter and
Ruth (Binder) Hoppes.
Hoppes was employed for 35 years by Quaker Maid Kitchens, Leesport. He was last employed
by Behler Patterns Inc., Deer Lake, Schuylkill County.
He was a member of Life Center Foursquare Gospel Church, Pottsville, where he was a member
of the church council.
Hoppes was a member of the Schuylkill Haven Senior Citizens.
He is also survived by a daughter, Terry (Hoppes) Linkhorst, Schuylkill Haven; and three
sons, Darwin Jr., Pine Grove, Schuylkill County; Jeffrey, Schuylkill Haven; and Michael,
Friedensburg, Schuylkill County.
Other survivors include two brothers, Charles Hoppes; Orwigsburg, Schuylkill County; and
Raymond Hoppes, Tremont, Schuylkill County; and three sisters, Shirley (Hoppes) Ritzko,
Summit Hill, Carbon County; and Rosemarie (Hoppes) Miller and Barbara (Hoppes) Fisher,
both of Pottsville.
Funeral services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. in Life Center Foursquare Gospel Church.
Burial will be in Cressona Cemetery, Cressona, Schuylkill County. Geschwindt-Stabingas
Funeral Home Inc., Schuylkill Haven, is in charge of arrangements.

Catherine M. Hoppes, 72, of Heffner Lane, Alsace Township, died April 17 in

Fountain, Fla., Ruth (Kline) Clauser, Douglassville; and Fern (Kline) Heffner,

Catherine M. Hoppes
Funeral services were held for Catherine M. Hoppes, 72, of Heffner Lane,
Alsace Township, who died April 17 in ManorCare Health Services, Muhlenberg Township. She
was the wife of Leon E. Hoppes. Born in Exeter Township, Hoppes was a
member of Zion (Spies) Lutheran Church, Alsace Township. She is also survived by a

(Zion) Cemetery, Alsace Township.

Lester R. Hoppes died July 13, 2002
Lester Robert Hoppes, 55, died of cancer July 13 in his residence in Auburndale,
Fla. He was the husband of Laverne (Schwoyer) Hoppes.
Born in Orwigsburg, Schuylkill County, he was a son of the late Howard S. and Edna
M. (Wolfinger) Hoppes.
Hoppes was employed as a forklift operator and warehouse supervisor until his retirement.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Winter Haven, Fla. Hoppes also is survived by
two sons, Aaron, Shoemakersville, and Michael, Mohrsville.
Other survivors include a stepdaughter, Denise Verry, Houston; and three stepsons; Richard
Adam, Kissimmee, Fla.; Robert Adam, Frystown; and Dallas Adam, Sarasota, Fla.
Also surviving are two brothers, Howard and Charles, and a sister, Irene (Hoppes) Long,
all of Hamburg. There also are two grandchildren.
Memorial services will be Thursday at 7 p.m. in the West Side Ridge Mobile Home Park
Clubhouse, Auburndale. The Central Flordia Casket Store, Lakeland, Fla., is in charge of
arrangements.

Hoppie Clarence Hoppis
"Hoppie" Clarence Hoppis, 64, of 219 East Stand Springs Road,
Simpsonville, died Wednesday, October 25, 2000.
He was a member of Standing Springs Baptist Church.
He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts, and retired after
20 years of service.
He was survived by his wife, Doris M. Hoppis of the home; four daughters,
Kathy and Paul Sandel of Clayton, NC., Shirley and Jonathon Vought of Minneapolis, Minn.,
Kim and Mike Bentley of Simpsonville, and Karen and Robert Brown of Charleston; two sons,
Fred and Gina Hoppis of Fountain Inn, and Joel and Jennifer Hoppis of Dover, Del.; and 10
grandchildren.
Visitation: Tonight from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Cannon Funeral Home-Jones Chapel.
Graveside service: Saturday at 11 a.m. at Greenville Memorial Gardens
In lieu of flowers: Memorials may be made to a charity of one's choice in memory of
"Hoppies" Clarence Hoppis.

Wednesday, March 15, 2000 at Rutherford Hospital.

a 45-year resident of Las Vegas and was employed in the real estate business.

of Las Vegas; daughter, Lisa Youngdahl of St. Louis; and one grandchild.

Lillian R. Dunbar-Rice, 80, of 580 Drift Road, Palmerton, died March 6 in Gnaden
Huetten Memorial Hospital, Lehighton. She was the wife of the late Wilfred Rice and
Wilbert S. Dunbar.
She was a machine operator for Scotty's Fashions, Little Gap, for 15 years until retiring
in 1993. Before that, she worked for the former D-ville Blouse Factory, Danielsville, for
several years.
Born in Allentown, she was a dughter of the late Leon and Helen (Frantz) Hoppes.
She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Aquashicola.
She volunteered as a cook for Palmerton Veterans of Foreign Wars, Danielsville Roosevelt
Democratic Club and Peterville Rod & Gun Club, all for many years.
Survivors: Daughter, Sandra L. Erickson in Flordia; a stepdaughter, Bonnie L. Hess of
Beersville; sons, Richard C. Dunbar of Danielsville, Wilbert S. Dunbar and Charles A.
Dunbar, both of Palmerton; stepson, Gary L. Rice of Beersville; sister, Violet Roth of
Slatington; brothers, Robert of Coplay, Floyd and Charles, both of Slatington; 19
grandchildren, two stepgrandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, two
great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son, Gary L. Dunbar.
Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Campton Funeral Home, 525 Delaware Ave., Palmerton. Call 7-8:30
