Open Kettle Green Beans

2 gallons green beans cleaned and broken
1/2 cup coarse salt
1 cup sugar
1 cup vinegar

Add enough water to cover beans and boil hard for 40 minutes.  Put in quart jars & seal.  When opening can, cook an additional 1 & 1/2 hours with a hunk of ham or bacon for seasoning.
