Images of Days Past
Rosa Lee Holloway & Louise Trahern c. 1898
This picture was in the possession of the widow of my grand-uncle John Nixon Humble, Jr. But the picture was sent to him while his first wife, Gulnare Grey was still alive, thereby the reason Gulnare is mentioned in the writing on back of the photo (see following). The photo was sent to her by another of my grand-uncles, William Hardy Humble who married Louise Trahern after she was married to William Holder. My grand-father, Jacob Courtney Humble was nicknamed "Coat" or "Coatney".
I know this is a picture of my grandmother Rosa Lee Holloway from other pictures of her. I don't remember Louise Trahern because they
were divorced by the time I was born. I'll try to get in touch with some of Hardy's grandchildren to see if they have photos of Louise.
William Hardy Humble and Louise Trahern Holder married on 5 May 1890 ... Rosey and Coat married 3 Feb 1899. I therefore dated the photo 1898.

Time for speculation ....This is one of those old family photos I have. Nothing written on the back. The large woman on the right is obviously an Indian. I vaguely, vaguely remember my Dad telling me it is of one of his ancestors, an Indian. Close inspection reveals, to me, a lot of facial similarities to my grandmother, Rosa Lee Holloway whose mother was Dixie Trahern. If this is Dixie Trahern she bears no resemblance to Louise Trahern, her sister in the photo above.
