Who was the Samuel Hollinger who was the administrator of the will of [my] David Hoffman of Franklin Twp.,York,Pa in 1845/6? David had married Catherine Hollinger for whom I still have not found parents and have been wondering what connection to her does this Samuel have? Depending upon which source one reads, Catherine was born either 12 July 1758 or 1768 and died 13 Dec 1850....

Re: [PAYork] Schaeffer/Dover Area
http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/TcB.2ACE/8977.1

Samuel Shaffer died in Washington Twp 7 May 1852 age 65-6-8 as recorded in the York Co. Democratic Press of 1 June 1852. In the Orphan Court records of 6/2/1852 Book X page 698 we find Widow Nancy
Issue: Henry
Elizabeth m. Jacob Harlacker
Sarah (dec'd) m. Abraham Zeigler and had Jacob, Philip, Samuel and Henry
Elizabeth m. John Hollinger
Susanna m. Moses Strayer
Catherine m. Joseph Grove
Rebecca m. Geo. Shrive
Samuel owned land in Washinton and Dover Twps.

Henry was 20 and 1/2 on 6/2/1852
A later OC record shows that Samuel had a brother Jacob.
Nancy and Anne, Samuel's wife in the 1850 Washington Twp census, are the same person. Samuel Shaeffer is single in Washington Twp taxes in 1809. A year later he has 130A 2 Horses, 1 Cow and a tanyard. He bought these frpm Paul Troup who had 130A, 1 Horse, 3 Cows and a tanyard in the 1809 taxes. The 1811 tax assessor called him Samuel Shiffer. I don't know where he was before 1809 but he may have been in Cumberland Co. he was 21 in 1808 so he may be in a tax record some where for 1808. So we need a 13 year old Schaeffer male in the 1800 census as a possible starting place for Samuel. He name a son Henry so perhaps a father or brother was Henry.
His father or some one else may have died an left him some money to buy the tanyard at such a young age.

    Hi, Marie, Debbie, and all,

Sorry, computer has been in the hospital for about 5 weeks and still works
only infrequently.  So have much e-mail to catch up on.  Though much of it
was not saved.  ?

Saw a posting from Debbie dated 6/26/99 regarding names she had found in a
friendship journal.  BTW what is a friendship journal?

I could not understand who Catherine Hollinger who married David Hoffman
was,and other names not clear to me, but the names Debbie listed from book
were:
Eli, Christina, Jonas, Rebecca, Elizabeth, Anna, George, Caroline, John
Jr. and Lidia.

In my database I have a George C. Hollinger son of Valentin Hollinger and
Anna Marie Meyer.  Geo married Elizabeth Asper.  Their children were:
George,Eli, Jonas, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Catherine, Caroline, Lydia.  Very similar
toyour list, Debbie.  These were York, York Co, PA people. At least parents
were early/mid 1800's.  Thought that was where your grandmother was,
Debbie.

Hope that helps make better sense of your journal.

Sonnie

Daniel Hollinger, aged 35 years, of near Dallastown, York county, was driving a
span of horses harnessed to a Dayton wagon, Saturday evening, when he was killed
in a runaway incident.  The pole dropped, stopping the wagon so suddenly that
Hollinger was hurled out, and his skull crushed by striking a rock.  Neighbors
saw the runaway accident and hurried to his assistance, but he died several
hours after being carried into a house.  He is survived by a wife and six
children, the eldest being only 8 years old.

There probably are others from the First  'for sale' letter, that may say more?
I don't do ebay, so not too knowledgeable  on that, sorry.

I just forwarded it to our HOLLINGER group, if anyone interested or wanted to contact.
DID you see Who bought it?
DO you know this connection?
I added it to our  PA page - but, don't think we Show the Connection/Link?

Regarding our ancestor Susannah Hollinger, my sister and I eventually

discovered a Taughscheim(?) in the York County Historical Society that

cleared up her maiden name.  On the very fancy certificate regarding the

birth/baptism of one of her children it mentioned that Susannah's maiden

name was Jacob(s).  Trust me, that was as close to a primary source that

anyone I know of can come up with concerning the early 1800s.

Henry Meyers born 1804 si the son of Henry born ca 1765-1775. henry born 1765-75 is the son of  John meyer of Paradise Twp as shown in his will H-279  written Nov 13, 1791 and probated 28 Jan, 1792. It is 4 1/2 pages. He lists his wife as Margaret and his children as Henry, Michael, David , John, anna Maria and Catherine.

Anna Maria marrried Valentine Hollinger by N 13, 1792.

Margarets will is P-233 probated either 1810 or 1825. Its unclear to me but I like the 1825. In her will Catherine is married to Philip Hartman and son Michael is dec'd (He died 1793) but he had sons.

John is the John Moyer in the 1779 Paradise Twp taxes with 200 acres. In 1783 John had 8 inhabitants if 6 of them were his children spaced every 2 yrs  the latest he married was 1771. If he was 21 whe he married  he had to be born 1750 or before . If his son Henry was born 1765-75 and he appears to be the oldest child John was born 1754 or earlier.  I don't know who is the father of John . However  19 april 1751 a John was born to Dietrich Meyer. Also George in York by 1745 had a John early.

SAMUEL F. HOLLINGER was born in York Township, near Dallastown, May 16, 1844.
His parents were Daniel and Elizabeth (Flinchbaugh) Hollinger
. He was reared on
the home farm and educated at the district schools. In the spring of 1865 he
went to Lancaster County and farmed about one year, when he returned to York
Township, and assisted his father on the farm for two years. In the fall of
1868 he began learning the trade of mill-wright with Jonathan Geesey, of
Dallastown; remained with him for two years, and then worked at his trade for
four years. In 1874 he began milling at Henry’s Mill, in Hopewell Township,
where he remained two years, going from there to Yost’s Mill in York Township
for two years, then to the Ness Mill in Springfield Township for two years; then
to the Tunnel Mill in the same township for one year; then to Diehl’s Mill near
York for three years, and in April, 1884, came to Strickler’s Mill near Hellam,
where he is at present engaged. He was married February 23, 1878, to Emeline
Lehman, daughter of J. W. Lehman of York County, and has had three children born
to him: Lizzie (deceased), Millie and Annie (deceased).

Well that's an odd one - I have no idea of who Agnes Hoffman is as a wife to (a) Christoph Hoffman - as far as we can tell, his wife Anna Elisabeth outlived him; so I have to assume this is another one of same name - I know I did find at least one of same name when I was trying to do my research for my own Christopher/Christoph/Stoffel Hoffman. Fortunately mine was usually referred to as Stoffel/Stophel.

Message Board Post:

David's will was dated 15 Nov 1843; probated 03 Feb 1844. Samuel Hollinger was of Lattimore Twp. Adams county and David was of Franklin Twp., York County. While working my way through these papers just now to double check my info, I saw that at the time I received the packet I had made a list of names connected to Hoffmans that had purchased at the vendue sale of David Hoffman, and in addition to Samuel Hollinger, there was a John Hollinger.

Dear Listers,

The Lobach Cemetery on Bushey School Road in Latimore Township has a new, enlarged website, www.LobachCemetery.org. Please take a look to see if you are descended from anyone listed there. There are over a dozen families represented, including Lobach, Jacobs, Burkholter, Deardorff, Stitzel, Hollinger, Musselman, Bupp and Sheffer. Most burials are early-to-mid 19th century. Any additional information to help identify those interred would be very much appreciated.

Thank you - Anne Brown, an Isaac Deardorff descendant
