Good idea! I'm researching the names of HOLLINGER, MARCH, FREASE,
BELDEN,
HAYES, MC LAUGHLIN, FIELD, and MC CORMICK all of Columbiana and Stark Co's.
John Hollinger married Hannah March and Henry March married Mary Magdelena
Hollinger - all in Falling Water, VA (now W VA) around 1800. Both
couples
moved to Col. Co. in the early 1800s. Henry C. March married Sarah
McLaughlin (my great grandparents) and lived in Stark Co. Michael
Frease
married Catharine Ginter - also in Falling Water about 1785. When
Michael
died about 1800 Catharine moved her six kids to Somerset CO., PA.
Several
of the children moved to Stark Co. before 1820. John Frease the oldest
son
married Elizabeth Field and their son Joseph settled in CAnton, OH.
Joseph
Frease and George Washington Belden, who married Rachel McCormick, had a law
practice in Canton which took in Wm. McKinley later. Joseph married
Belden's daughter Sarah. They are my great grandparents.
Always interested in gaining more info and happy to share what I
have. Just
LOVE meeting long lost or never known cuzzins!

Subject: [15] Salem, Columbiana County, Ohio-See Names
Images of America, Salem, Ohio, Dale E. Shaffer, 1998. Illustrated soft cover,
6-1/2x9-1/4, 128 pages, absolutely wonderful pictures of people (many
identified - earliest is an 1850 photo of picnickers, but other with older
people-see names below), churches, schools, businesses, old log homes,
elaborate mansions, industries, and noted scenic areas - a wonderful book for
those with Columbiana County ancestors.
"With more than 230 historic photographs, Salem, Ohio provides an
excellent visual image of what the past was like in a little Quaker town called
Salem. Covering the time period from 1850 to 1956, this book offers a glimpse
of the downtown of yesteryear, with photos of the old buildings, businesses,
trolley cars, parades, and homes. The people of Salem are also shown as they
looked, worked and played in earlier times. Every photo in Salem, Ohio is a
conversation piece with a unique story to tell which represents a small part of
the city's history.
Salem has always been seen as a quiet, traditional, and peaceful city - largely
because it was founded by Quakers. In fact, the name Salem, which comes from
the word Jerusalem literally means "City of Peace".
The city has many claims to fame, including its active role in the Underground
Railroad and the Anti-Slavery Movement. Salem was also the site of Ohio's first
Women't Sufferage Convention in 1850....
Dale E. Shaffer has put together a fascinating book of images that will help
introduce readers to historic Salem, as well as serve future generations as a convenient
reference source of factual information."
