Will of Christian Hollinger

August 8, 1802, probated December 27, 1802

            In the Name of God Amen, I Christian Hollinger of Berkeley County and state of Virginia, being in sound mind and memory, calling to mind the uncertainties of this life, do make this my last will and testament in the following manner and form to wit:  lst, that my just debts be paid by my executor; Item: I give and bequeathe to my two sons, George and John Hollinger my tract of land that I am now living on purchased from Jacob Givins conveyed and living John Bailey’s conveyance bond for said land now in my will and desire that the said John Bailey shall convey said tract of land equally unto my sons George and John, each of them to pay 25 pounds current money in ? and form following: each of them to pay yearly and every year after this date 8 dollars unto my wife Eva and after her death.  After my wife’s death to be paid unto my daughters of what shall remain in a manner aforesaid and in the following form the 1/3 of the payments as shall remain after my wife’s death to my daughter Catharine, wife of Nicholas Unger, to the remainder 2/3 to be paid to my daughter Magdaline, wife of Henry Marsh, also I give and bequeathe unto my two sons George and John, my wagon gears, cutting box with steel knife and screws, and my harrow for which my two said sons George and John are to pay my debts now due in equal parts and like share and also my will is that my wife at her will to stay in the house as we now live for her to have the use thereof, also of the garden, stable and fruit trees and for my two sons George and John to give unto her yearly and every year during her life from date three bushels of wheat, three bushels of rye, three bushels of corn, fifty pounds of pork, seven and one half pounds of wool and one pack of salt, each of them to give the above mentioned and also to find her course food for one cow and firewood to the door.

 

 Item: I give and bequeathe to my wife Eva all my household furniture during her life and after her death to be sold by my executor and after debts being paid to be equally divided among my five children and two grandchildren, Daniel Hollinger, Catharine wife of Nicholas Unger, George Hollinger, John Hollinger, Magdalina wife of Henry March, George Ermon and Jacob Hollinger; and lastly I do hereby nominate and appoint my beloved wife Eva and two sons George and John whole and sole executors of my last will and testament revoking all other wills by me formerly made.  In witness hereof I hereto subscribe my name and affix my seal this 8^th day of August in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and two.
