Biographical Sketches of James Frazier Family

     James Frazier and his wife Elizabeth Cade Frazier left New Jersey in 1811 and settled in Piqua, Ohio. They remained there until 1824, at that time they moved west to the relatively new State of  Indiana, settling in Fountain County on a farm about three miles southeast of Covington. James and Elizabeth Frazier had eleven children, Jane, Sarah, Martha Elizabeth, Nancy, Mary, Melinda, James, William, David and Phillip.

     Elizabeth Cade Frazier was a midwife and was very popular in her profession. Excitement was always high when "Aunt Betsy Frazier" was seen riding down the road at a swift pace and there was always conjecture as to where she was going.

     Jane the eldest married Samuel Mitchell and moved to Wisconsin and remained there to raise their family, not much has been learned of their descendants.

     Elizabeth married a Wisconsin Pioneer named Christopher Minert they also settled in that state and not much is known of their descendants.

     Melinda married John Campbell and lived on a farm near Coal Creek between Hillsboro and Covington, where they reared six Children.

     Sarah married Thomas Ellis and remained on a Fountain County farm south of Hillsboro where they had three children.

     Martha was married to Michael Pemberton and moved to Illinois and later to Kansas, their family consisted of six children.

     Nancy was married to George Young and had two children, later she married David McElwee they had one child.

     Mary first married William Mendenhall, the pilot of a river boat on the Mississippi River, they had two sons, James and Elliott. James went to the Civil War and never returned or heard of again. The second husband of Mary was William Ellis.

     Phillip died at the age of eighteen and was the only one of the children to not reach maturity.

     William married Mary Ann VanGundy and  settled on a farm south of Hillsboro and reared ten children.

     David married Minerva Williams and lived near Rossville, Illinois where they reared six sons.

     James Frazier, Jr. was born on a farm near Covington in 1825 and married Margaret Williams, a sister of David's wife Minerva. The grandfather of  the Williams' girls established a mill on Coal Creek just outside of Hillsboro. Margaret Williams Frazier was postmistress of the Hillsboro post office around 1845. James and Margaret Frazier had four children, John W., James Franklin, Mary and Byron.
