Wayne M. Helman

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Wayne Melvin Helman, 70, of 685 Lee Drive, died Saturday, April 11, 1998, at Washington County Hospital. Born Nov. 27, 1927, in Shady Grove, Pa., he was the son of the late Roy R. and Mildred Fahrney Helman.

He served with the U.S. Army at Fort Jackson, S.C., from 1953 to 1955 during the Korean War.

He was employed as a welder and worked in the wire department at Grove Worldwide, Shady Grove, retiring in April 1994 after 30 years of service. He attended Calvary Bible Church of Greencastle.

He is survived by his wife, L. Irene Shank Helman, whom he married Dec. 9, 1955; four daughters, Rose M. Clites of Greencastle, Verdell L. Hanzlik of Gettysburg, Pa., Mildred I. Sheeder of Greencastle, and Vesta J. Helman of Fairfield, Pa.; a son, Carl W. Helman of Chambersburg, Pa.; two sisters, Dorothy J. Beltz of Chambersburg and Fay Ulrich of Chambersburg; a brother, Wilbur "Web" Helman of Mercersburg, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and nephews.

Services will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Calvary Bible Church, 3845 Buchanan Trail West, Greencastle. The Rev. Glen A. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Miller-Grove Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle; and Wednesday one hour prior to the services at the church.
