Magdalena "Maggie" Hopfauf was born March 13, 1914, to Stanley and Emilia (Leingang) Hopfauf, at Fallon. The oldest of 16 children, she was raised on a farm near Fallon. She lived there until her marriage to Jacob Hellman, Oct. 26, 1932, in Fallon. They lived on a farm south of Glen Ullin, where eight children were born to them. Her husband died in 1972 after 40 years of marriage. They had lived in Glen Ullin briefly before his death. She moved to Mandan in March of 1973, where she has resided since.

Some of her hobbies include playing an instrument in the Liberty Heights Kitchen Band and embroidering. Up to this time she has probably completed about 75 sets of dish towels and numerous sets of pillow cases. She loved to bake and enjoyed sharing her baked goods with her family and friends.

Maggie was a member of Golden Age Services, Kitchen Band since 1976, and Tops Club North Dakota, which has been one of her greatest pleasures since she has lived in Mandan. The friends she made there were a source of great joy and inspiration to her.
