HENRY MARSH 1761-1859

Henry Marsh i s my earliest known Marsh ancestor. Henry was a Revolutionary War Veteran and my 3rd great grandfather

On Henrys application for a RW pension, He stated that he was born in Amelia Co., VA. in 1761. He enlisted in Surry Co., NC where his uncle lived ( this was probably about 1779-1780) He stated that he visited his mother in Henry Co., VA. between service periods ( this would be about 1781-1783 ) He never mentions his father. There was a David Marsh , b: 1769 in Albermarle Co., VA. that went nearly everywhere my Henry went. David is either a brother or cousin of Henrys.

Henry and David had a close association with the MUSICK family of Spotsylvania Co., VA. There was a Henry Marsh who witnessed the will of George MUSICK in 1754 at Spotsylvania Co., VA.

In Surry Co., NC. John Marsh Sr., that was living there, and possibly Henrys uncle, was closely associated with the MUSICK, RIGGS, ADYELOT , and ROY families.

David Marsh had a son named Jehoida and so did Henry. One thing I find interesting is this name is biblical. Henry and David may be a part of the Quaker MARSHES that were from Chester Co., PA. Through census and marriage records, it appears that there was a relationship of sorts with these families. Part of these Quaker Marshes were descendants of Henry and Gravener Marsh of Chester Co., PA. Some of these Marshes migrated down to Virginia prior to the Rev. War. After the war, some were in Guilford, Stokes and Randolph Co., NC. There was another Henry Marsh in Washington Co., TN. that was part of these Marshes.

In the book The Plantation Marshes by Lillian Marsh Harmon . The author says that my Henry Marsh was a son of Robert Marsh and Martha Head of Spotsylvania Co., VA. But, the pieces dont fit.

After the war Henry moved to Washington Co., VA. He was there in 1784 and 1785. From 1786 until about 1806 He was in Russell Co., VA., in the part that was created from Washington Co. He then went to Wayne Co., KY, then to MO. Territory, near St. Louis, and then back to Wayne Co., KY. He mentioned living in McMinn, and Bledsoe Co., TN. He was in White Co., TN. by 1830 and died there in 1859.

Henry married Pheraby HARVEY on Sep., 6, 1816 in Overton Co., TN. He was about 56 and she was only about 21. Henry may have been married prior to this. There was a marriage in 1785, in Washington Co., VA. Between a Henry NASH and Agness BUNDY . I believe that this was actually Henry MASH . Henry spelled his last name MASH early on to about 1850.

Henry and Pheraby had a son, Jehoida H. Marsh, who was born in Wayne Co., KY., around 1818. Jehoida sometimes went by the name Joseph H. Marsh. I descend from Jehoida Marsh and Angeletta Kidwell . They were married on Dec. 19, 1850 in White Co., TN. Angeletta was the daughter of Silas KIDWELL and Sally WYNNE, who were married May 31, 1830 in Wayne Co., KY. I lost track of Jehoida after the 1880 Census. He was in White Co., TN. In 1880.

My great grandparents were Lorenzo Dow Marsh and Sarah Frances RHODES. They were married on Jan. I6, 1880 in Smith Co., TN. Sarah was the daughter of Philip RHODES and Eliza Jane APPLE. Philip RHODES was born in Guilford Co., NC about 1827. Eliza Jane APPLE was born about 1829 in Smith Co., TN. But many of her relatives were in and from Guilford Co., NC. It is not documented; but, my research leads me to believe she was a daughter of Milton Thomas APPLE and Margaret BROWN , who were married on Aug. 7, 1827 in Guilford Co., NC.

My grandparents were Joseph H. MARSH and Sudie Ann CHESHIER . They were married in Delta County, Texas on Aug. 23, 1908.

If you think you are connected to my line of MARSHES, or if you can help me find who Henrys parents were., I will be very happy. and grateful
