Marion J. Stedwell, author of "Steadwell, Stedwell, Studwell" (Heritage Books, 1996) was my collaborator on this web site. He spent many years producing the first comprehensive history of these families, and passed away in 2006.

Thomas Studwell seems to have been the ancestor of most Steadwells, Stedwells and Studwells in America. This web site will try to pull together the most complete, accurate and up to date information we have about him and his descendants.
Much of the information on the site is derived from the book "Steadwell, Stedwell, Studwell", by Marion J. Stedwell (Heritage Books, 1996), but it has been updated by data obtained from contributors, censuses and vital records. Although this web site contains all of the Steadwells, Stedwells and Studwells who appear in the book, much of the personal information is omitted: the book should be consulted for more details.
Because of size restrictions I'll only be able to include descendants with the Steadwell, Stedwell and Studwell surnames. However I'll include the spouses of all daughters, so that those of you whose ancestors married into the family will be able to trace your lines.
If you can provide additional (or better) information, please send it to me - I'd be happy to add it to the site and to list you as a contributor.
