The Descendants of Thomas Adgate

of Saybrook and Norwich, CT

Compiled by Hal Langworthy

Revised November 2018

Thomas Adgate first appeared in Saybook, Connecticut around 1650. According to some sources (for example, Caulkins, "History of Norwich", p.155) he may have been the only immigrant to New England named Adgate. So it's possible that most, if not all, of the Adgates in America are his descendants.

This website is an attempt to pull together the best available information about the Adgate family, so that folks having Adgate ancestors can trace their ancestry quickly and easily. In particular, the objectives of the site are to:

  • Include all the descendants of Thomas Adgate.
(Because of size limitations I'll only be able to include descendants with the Adgate surname. However I'll try to include the spouses of the Adgate daughters, so that those of you whose ancestors married into the family will be able to trace your Adgate lines.)
  • Trace the ancestry of all Adgates born before 1800, both male and female lines
  • Provide documentation for all entries

This site may contain errors and is certainly incomplete. If you have new or better information, please send it to me - with sources - and I'll update the site on a regular basis. I hope that by working together we can create an accurate and reliable genealogy of the Adgates in America. As time permits, I'll also add brief biographical information for each person.
