PHOEBE W. AYDLETT

Phoebe W. Aydlett, 92, of the 600 block of Aqawam St. died June 13, 1997. A graveside funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Twiford's Memorial Chapel, Elizabeth City, is in charge.

(July 1995) Della White Jarvis....Columbia Native

Della White Jarvis, 99 of 1007 W. Williams Circle, died Friday, July 21, 1995 at Albemarle Hospital.

Graveside services will be held today at 2 p.m. in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Twiford's Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Jewel Davenport, 1614 Parkview Dr. Memorial donations may be made to the Blackwell Memorial Baptist Church or the Pasquotank-Camden Rescue Squad.

Mrs. Jarvis was the widow of Ludford Wilson Jarvis and the daughter of the late John William and Victoria Jones White.

Survivors include two daughters, Nell J. Jennette and Lee J. Davenport; one son, Charles H. Jarvis; and one sister Phoebe Aydlett, all of Elizabeth City; four grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

(March 1966) Charles E. White

A memorial service was held Thursday night at 7:45 O'clock for Charles E. White at the Edward D. Lynch Funeral Home in Sunnyside, Long Island, N.Y. Captain White died in a New York hospital on March 22 after a short illness.

He was a native of Tyrrell County, but had been living in New York since 1919. He was a veteran of World War I, a paint manufacturer in Long Island City for several years and later a captain in the Maritime Service until his recent retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Hopkins White; one son, Dr. Charles E. White, Jr. of Plainfield, N.J.; one grandchild; three brothers, J. Frank White of Belcross, Samuel E. White of New Suffolk, N.Y. and George W.. White of Long Island City, N.Y., and three sisters, Mrs. Lula W. Faulkner of Lakeland, Fla., Mrs. Della W. Jarvis and Mrs. Phoebe W. Aydlett of Elizabeth City.

Funeral services and interment with graveside military rites were conducted Friday morning at 10 o'clock in Long Island National Cemetery.

(March 1922) Announcement:

The Marriage of Elizabeth Evans Hopkins to Capt. Charles E. White of Norfolk, Virginia took place at the rectory of the Union Baptist Church, Noble Street, Wednesday evening, the Rev. George MacKenzie MacDonald officiating.

The wedding was a quiet one due to the recent death of the bride's mother. The bride was very prettily attired in sand-colored Canton crepo.

Miss Mae F. Hopkins was her sister's bridesmaid and brother of the groom Samuel E. White was best man.

After the ceremony the brideal party attended a dinner in Manhattan. The couple will be at home to their friends at 210a. North Henry Street after a short trip.

The young ladies of the church, known as the "K. K. Club" came in and surprised the bride and groom just after the ceremony.

The couple were showered with rice and confetti as they departed

(May 1962) Columbia, NC -

Lloyd Jones, 88, died Thursday at 11 a.m. in Columbia Hospital after illness of six weeks.

A lifelong resident of Tyrrell County, he was a retired farmer. He was a son of Timothy and Mrs. Amanda Jones and widow of Mrs. Melissa Kemp Jones.

Surviving are two sons, Len T. Jones of Route 3, Columbia, and Ernest M. Jones of Ayden; three daughters Mrs. Amanda Parisher of Columbia, Mrs. Reba Brickhouse of Aulander and Mrs. Marie Starr of Cresswell; 10 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be conducted in Gum Neck, Freewill Baptish Church Saturday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. I. E. Ambrose and the Rev. Robert J. Bryan. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will be taken from Walker Funeral Home to the church at 1 p.m.

(November 1973) Mrs. Lula White Faulkner

Mrs. Lula White Faulkner, formerly of Elizabeth City but a resident of Lakeland Florida for othe past 40 years, died Monday night in Lakeland General Hospital.

She is survived by her husband, H. L. Faulkner, one daugher, Mrs. James R. Humphries, and two grandsons, Gregory and Jeffrey Humphries of Lakeland; two sisters, Mrs. L. W. Jarvis and Mrs. Wyatt R. Aydlett of Elizabeth City; three brothers, J. Frank White of Belcross, Samuel E. White of New Suffolk, N.Y., and George W. White of Long Island City, N.Y., and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning at the South Side Baptist Church, and burial will follow in a Lakeland cemetery.

A BUSINESS GIRL GETS MARRIED

Mrs. Halbert Faulkner one of Elizabeth City's ablest young business women got married this week, when Miss Lula M. White, head saleslady of M. Leigh Sheep Company became the bride of Mr. Halbert L. Faulkner of Washington, D.C. And business didn't interfer with the marriage, for she waited until the Easter rush was over to get married. She is the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. W. White of Tyrrell County. Mr. Faulkner, who is connected with the office of Collector of Internal revenue, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. T. Faulkner of Washington, D.C. On their return from a Northern trip, they will make their home in this city.

(October 1987) Francis O. Copeland

CHESAPEAKE - Francis Owens Copeland 97, of the 600 block of Kingsborough Square, died Oct. 8, 1987, in a nursing home.

Mrs. Copeland, a native of Tyrrell County, N.C., was the widow of Warren Copeland. She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

Survivors include a stepdaughter, Annie Etheridge of Columbia, N.C.

Graveside service will be conducted at 4 p.m. today in Old Hollywood Cemetery, Elizabeth City by the Rev. Harry Vanderford.

Twiford's Colonial Chapel, Chesapeake, is handling the arrangements.

The family will assemble in the cemetery at 3:45 p.m. today.
